Well, to coin a cliché, it really was a game of two halves. We, by far dominated the first half, and, although it pains me to say, Ipswich did dominate the second half.

I thought we were outstanding during the first 45 minutes. We looked like the side we all expect us to be. The passing was crisp, we were finding our players, we created chances - everything we have been crying out for. Unfortunately, we went into the break with only one goal to show for our efforts.

The second half was a different story. We seemed to lose the midfield. Once we lost this Ipswich took over. Although they dominated the next 35 minutes, they didn't create too many chances and when they did, Tony Warner pulled off some good saves.

All in all, I hate to say it, a fair result.

However, I feel Peter Grant made some tactical errors, as I feel he has done throughout his short period in charge. I assume that taking Mickey Spillane off was due to injury, as I felt this was the moment we started to lose control.

His next two substitutions were beyond my belief, not necessarily because of the personnel but because of the positions.

The manager dropped Jurgen Colin from the team, replaced by Andy Hughes because he did not get forward enough. So, he brings Colin on, in place of Croft, who was injured, and plays him at right midfield.

He has brought on a player he has criticised for not getting forward into a forward thinking role!

The next made me think he really had lost his marbles. He brings on Chris Martin, a natural forward, as I am sure he felt we could still win the game, and played him left midfield.

We have the best left winger in the league, Darren Huckerby, playing centre forward and drifting to the left, and a forward playing in Hucks' natural position. Why?

This mistake was further confirmed to me when one of the moves of the match saw Martin pick the ball up in the middle of the park, play it out left, to Huckerby, who beat a couple of defenders and put a cross in to the far post for Chris Martin to volley narrowly over the bar. This type of move should have and would have happened more often if the two players concerned were playing in their proper positions.

Enough of the whinging.

I thought Andy Hughes was magnificent. I have been critical of him in the past, and I am sure will be again in the future if he has a poor game. But on Sunday he epitomised the type of commitment we want from our players in a derby game. Dickson Etuhu also had a good game until we lost the midfield; he then looked a bit lost.

He has looked a different player since he has not had Safri beside him. Maybe he relishes being the senior man in the midfield and rises to the challenge.

Roll on next season. Hopefully, we will see a few new faces and will get the commitment, as well as the exciting football, we want from our club. The supporters deserve better than they have been given this year.

I wish you all a happy summer and make sure you rest your vocal chords well before they are required, in abundance, in August.
