Peter Grant has watched video nasties of the derby day drubbing at Ipswich - and still it doesn't get any better.

The Canaries boss endured a torrid afternoon as his team came off distinctly second best, losing 3-1 to their closest rivals on Sunday.

And watching it all over again has left his intentions clear: "We have to get back to winning ways quickly."

Grant spoke to his players earlier this week in an effort to settle the issues arising from Sunday's debacle - and says the response has been excellent.

"We trained very well on Monday morning and then we spoke about it again because I wanted to put it to bed," he said. "It was the things I had already spoken about on the Thursday and Friday - that was the disappointing thing for me, because it was things we had already covered.

"I have watched the game three or four times since then and the work ethic, covering areas of the pitch, I can't fault. But the thought ethic going into where they were covering what they were doing, what they were allowing them and the amount of work they had to do because they never did the first thing properly was incredible.

"Where they actually generate their work was the problem for me, simple things like throw-ins. Between Gary Doherty and the boy (Alan) Lee getting checked, it was 20 seconds before the throw-in was taken and within that 20 seconds they had taken the throw in, put the ball in the box and scored the goal.

"Impossible - it shouldn't happen. It should happen in five seconds, and it's taking 20 seconds. That why I talk about basics and the boys know how disappointed I was - and I was disappointed for them as well because they know how much a derby means and the passion and the support and all that sort of thing.

"There is nothing better than sending your support home happy so we understand that.

"But as I said before last week, it was three points, and if I look back at the results we have had, if you had said you would get the maximum points out of the teams we had beaten people would have been absolutely delighted. I am a realistic, yes I am very disappointed to lose any game, especially derby matches. You don't like losing them, but the bottom line is it is three points, and that's all I wanted on Sunday.

"Now you realise why I was critical at times, it wasn't just for effect. It was just a fact that if we didn't do your jobs properly constantly, every game, every day we will struggle, as most teams in this division will."

Grant prepares his team for Hull today knowing that only a win home is acceptable.

"We have to get back to winning ways quickly," he said. "We have got an opportunity against a Hull side, who, although they had a bad result last weekend, did well prior to that."
