I have just returned from three weeks abroad, and - via the internet - was able to rejoice at the Stoke win and at Chris Martin signing for us. Then, deep, deep despair at the Colchester result.

The various message boards which kept me informed while I was away have been humming with suggestions about which players will be leaving and who will be coming in over the summer.

Let's face it, the frustration - and fun - of being a football supporter is that everyone knows what is best: for their team, their club - and their national side.

We all know which players should be selected, which substitutions should be made, and we could apply the offside rule more consistently than any referee's assistant.

One thing is certain, there won't be a lot of money for the manager to spend. The parachute payments have ended and the only way to buy big would seem to be to sell our prize asset - who is still near the top end of the Championship scorers' table in spite of not playing for three months.

One bit of information which has caught most of us on the hop this week is the appointment of Nigel Worthington and Doug Livermore at Leicester City - with their next home game against Norwich today.

Anyone who had written the script of Norwich's season in advance would not have been believed. Anyway, good luck Nigel and Doug - hope it all turns out well for you (after we have played Leicester off the park today).

Back from annual leave and at Carrow Road on Easter Monday, I felt reasonably optimistic - even after the inevitable goal in the four minutes of added time.

There is still a lot to improve in our team, but I think the green and yellow seeds of hope which I detected at Luton are still there.

I am expecting us to stay up - just - and to be a better playing unit next season. We just need some consistency.

And talking about consistency, it would be good to see some in Norwich's last few games this season, starting with that cracking win at Leicester!
