Goalkeeper David Marshall remains a top target for Norwich City in the summer.

But their chances of getting the 22-year-old 'keeper back to Carrow Road could hinge on the future of current Celtic first choice Artur Boruc.

The Poland international has been linked with a move to top clubs at home and abroad - a possibility City boss Peter Grant desperately hopes will not become a reality.

Glasgow-born Marshall is back in Scotland recovering from the ankle injury he suffered in the Canaries' FA Cup tie at Chelsea five weeks ago, which ruled him out for the rest of the season, but he has been back to Norwich.

Said Grant: “David Marshall came down to see us last week. We're keeping in contact every week.

“He's got another two weeks with the 'boot' on and we are keeping an eye on his progress.”

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan agreed to loan Marshall to Norwich from January until the end of May, originally to cover the possibility of City reaching the promotion play-offs. He made just five appearances, three of them in the FA Cup, before injury struck and an operation revealed he would be out for 12 weeks, but it's a door Grant would love to keep open.

He said: “David has made it known to one or two up in Scotland that he'd love to come to Norwich.

“I've marked Gordon's card that if David is available we'd be very interested, whether it's a permanent move or even a loan.”

However, 27-year-old Boruc, capped 17 times by Poland, has admirers beyond Celtic Park.

“I know Boruc is getting mentioned in connection with AC Milan and Bayern Munich and also with Aston Villa,” said Grant.

“I'm hoping that doesn't happen because if it does, I'm sure David Marshall will become Celtic number one.”

At the time of Marshall's move to Norwich, Strachan insisted: “We've only made this decision so that David can get better for us and himself. David has a huge part to play in this club's future but he needed games. That's why we did it.”

Meanwhile, on-loan Tony Warner has played the last five matches in goal for City, and is another possible option in the summer, though he has another year left on his Fulham contract.

The first of the five goalkeepers used by the Canaries this season, Scotland international Paul Gallacher, who was left out after the 3-2 win at Luton, has another year on his Carrow Road contract.
