Rugby 0, King's Lynn 3: King's Lynn made a short journey for a change today to face middle of the table VS Rugby. The Linnets were hoping to extend their eight game unbeaten run in order to maintain their excellent recent form and hold on, or improve, their fourth place in the table.

A fine Lynn move in the opening minute saw West cross into the Rugby box, where it was headed behind for a corner, which was collected easily by keeper Asandiyev.

Another couple of minutes and Defty swivelled to shoot, but straight into a defender.

Nolan chipped wide as Lynn kept up the early pressure, before West again forced a corner, which was cleared.

Cooper was hacked down on the halfway line with his transgressor receiving a talking to by the referee, but when a few minutes later the same two clashed again, Cooper was shown the yellow card - surely a lack of consistency by the official.

On 18 minutes Rugby forced their first corner, but the over-hit kick was easily cleared.

Defty failed to react quickly enough in another Lynn opportunity, and then another great move through the home defence ended with Nolan hitting over from in front of goal.

A fourth Lynn corner was then cleared upfield for Rugby's Stone to run on, before being stopped by Benstead at the expense of a corner.

O'Halloran then beat the home keeper to a ball well out of his goal, but defenders recovered the situation to clear the danger.

Nolan again hit over on 30 minutes when Defty put him in, and in spite of all their pressure Lynn were not finding the net from the numerous good opportunities created.

Smith had a free-kick blocked just before the break, and then Nolan's goal-bound shot was tipped over by the home keeper.

Half-time: Rugby 0, King's Lynn 0.

Lynn resumed on the offensive at the start of the second period with Defty's cross just being grabbed by the keeper in front of Nolan. O'Halloran gave the ball away in midfield but the home forwards failed to take advantage. Lynn broke through again shortly after only for O'Halloran to drive wide from a good position after good work by Defty. Lynn were playing some great football and slicing the home defence open almost continually but not taking their regular chances. On 60 minutes however the deadlock was broken, a corner by Smith caused panic in front of the Rugby goal and when a gap appeared DEAN WEST smashed the ball into the net to put Lynn in front. Two minutes later Benstead went full length to save but Lynn broke quickly with Nolan pulling the ball back for Anselim to almost break the home crossbar from 25 yards, the ball rebounding to safety. Nolan then had a shot finger-tipped away by the home keeper but from the kick SAM MCMAHON placed the ball into the net from 10 yards to make it 2-0 on 72 minutes. A couple of minutes later it was three when JACK DEFTY brilliantly chipped over the oncoming home keeper after fine work by Anselim and McMahon. The football was really flowing from them now and they looked likely to increase their lead every time they went forward. Charles came on for the hard working O'Halloran and Hammon on for Defty with minutes to go but the flow was uninterrupted from the promotion chasing Linnets. They continued to play the ball around with ease until the final whistle to complete another fine performance.
