He must go - for our long-term future

Fed up! That's the overwhelming feeling I have at this precise moment in time. Argument, counter argument, around and round we go, in a never-ending cycle of anti and pro Worthington sentiments.

Will it change anything? Will it just fuel the bad feeling breaking out all over the stands and outside? Win a game and all the pro-Worthington fans are having a go, lose and it's back with the anti-crowd! How can we ever fully trust Worthington again and how will he ever trust us again?

Reading the statement from Delia & Michael this week, showed the class that these two great people have and maybe others on the board will learn a thing or two about public relations. It showed they cared and it showed they are aware of the depth of feeling. BUT, I'm afraid I disagree on one fundamental point. I think if you are concerned about the long-term future of the club, then the current management team has to go! I often get accused of having a short memory but I feel it's my long memory that has led me to the conclusions I have of Mr Worthington and his coaches. We saw a few glimpses of good football last season but overall we were negative, badly prepared & dull. I truly believe a good manager would have kept that side in the Premiership and as for this season, we have been utter rubbish.

My argument is change it now and get a new-look management team in place ready to make the necessary changes to the team in the summer. Funnily enough that's what West Ham did with Roeder and in getting in Pardew, they gave him time to build his own side before the parachute money dried up. What happens if our current form continues? Do we finally change the management in September, when the transfer window is three months away? Would this not make it increasingly hard for any new person to turn it around?

Anyway, this is all academic as the board will not change our management team before the end of the season. So, as a disillusioned (Oxford Dictionary “disappointment caused by discovering that your beliefs are mistaken or unrealistic!”) supporter of this club, do I carry on voicing my concerns or do I toe the party line? Given this week's statement, I agree that it's pointless being negative in the ground (not that I have been before all you “Loyal” supporters come looking for me) or even outside afterwards and maybe the best way forward is to write to the club, as suggested by Roy Blower.

So, I have had my say and I have to agree to disagree but at least I take a little bit of comfort from Delia and Michael, “But know this, if the time does come when we all collectively feel the manager is not right, we will have no hesitation in changing things”.
