King's Lynn player/boss Carl Heggs insisted yesterday his side are not the bad boys of the Unibond Premier Division.

Heggs was sent off and six other Lynn players cautioned in the 2-1 defeat at Buxton on Monday that ended the club's recent six-match unbeaten league run.

The Linnets' chief is adamant his squad does not have a discipline problem despite a spate of yellow cards since the opening weeks of the campaign.

Heggs was dismissed for an innocuous trip on Buxton defender Steve Ridley to cap a miserable debut after a strong first half challenge on home keeper Scott Hartley.

"I was frustrated with my team for giving away a silly goal just before that," he said. "I slid in but realised I wasn't going to get the ball so I pulled my foot away but caught him with my knee.

"But the second yellow was a joke. I'd had three fouls against me after the break and nothing given.

"Then I've gone to close the centre back down in their box and he was going to jump over my leg so I ended up clipping him.

"How can you give someone a yellow for a foul in the opposition box?

"The referee just wanted to make a point.

"We are not a dirty team. If my side was picking up bookings for dissent, for kicking the ball away, for foul and abusive then I would say we have an issue at this club.

"I don't believe any of the challenges against Buxton were over the top."

Heggs met chairman Ken Bobbins and majority shareholder Michael Chinn yesterday for the green light to bring in fresh blood.

The Linnets' chief is working on more reinforcements for Saturday's latest home test against big spending Bradford Park Avenue.

Heggs confirmed midfielder Matty Birley was the latest player to be released following the exits of experienced defender Craig McAughtrie and Jamie Oliver earlier this week.

"Matty has technical ability but he is not producing," said Heggs.

"Jamie came in and did a job but we want to go in a different direction. Craig has left by mutual consent.

"His wife is pregnant and he wants to be closer to his home so he goes with my best wishes.

"I'm not going to stop until I get this right.

"I'm no quitter and I won't bury my head in the sand.

"Yes, we've had injuries and plenty of bad luck but supporters deserve more than a side in the bottom half. I won't rest until they have that."

Heggs is promising big things from young Rushden loan signing Bobby Aisien who made his debut alongside skipper Andy Boyce at Buxton.

The 20-year-old has agreed an initial one month switch.

"I thought he was awesome considering he didn't know any of the lads," he said.
