Hethersett Athletic Girls U15 had a hard-fought 3-2 League Cup win over Aylsham in a game that saw them score in the first and last minute of the game.

Sophie Rock gave them the early lead only for Aylsham to equalise and then take the lead. Hethersett battled back after the break and Sophie Rock scored from the penalty spot and then went on to finish off a flowing move to give the home side victory. Rock’s hat-trick made her the first female player to complete 150 goals for Hethersett Athletic and she now stands fourth in the club’s all-time scorers’ list.

Hethersett Athletic U16 went down 8-2 to a strong Fakenham side. Hethersett were 4-0 down at half-time. They improved after the break but there were still too many holes in midfield. Hethersett did manage to score two good goals through Ambrose Wilkerson and Nick Fogarty.

Hethersett Athletic U15 beat Mattishall 8-2 on a sticky pitch due to afternoon rain. Mattishall played with plenty of spirit and took the lead before Hethersett began to dominate the game and they eventually cruised to victory. Scott Grimes scored another hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 43. Charlie Larwood also hit three and other scorers were Lewis Sanders and Tom McDonagh.

Hethersett Athletic U14 beat Watton 4-2 to maintain their unbeaten league record and put more pressure on leaders Thorpe. They started badly and were lucky not to fall behind before settling down and taking control. Cain Living and Josh Denny gave them a 2-0 lead and, after the break, Living made it 3-0 before Watton pulled a goal back. Ryan Stone restored Hethersett’s three-goal advantage before Watton scored a consolation goal late on. Unluckiest player on the pitch was Royce Stevenson who had three “goals” disallowed.

Hethersett Athletic U11 went down 10-0 at home to Wymondham. Despite the scoreline stand-in keeper Taylor Morris had an outstanding game and Hethersett battled until the end against a skilful Wymondham side who passed the ball well

Hethersett Athletic U10 drew 0-0 at Wymondham.

Hethersett Athletic U9 fought hard to achieve a 3-3 draw at Wymondham and looked to have made sure of the points until the home side scored a late equaliser. Hethersett scorers were Aaron Rich, Akos Csorba and Henry Kemp.

WYMONDHAM U9 had their last home game of the season against Hethersett and it was a fast-paced affair that exhibited some wonderful attacking play. The away team opened the scoring but Wymondham quickly squared it when James Carter burst forward from defence to slot past the on-rushing keeper. Hethersett then went on the attack and found themselves back in front with two unstoppable goals. However, the second half was all Wymondham. Some excellent goalkeeping by stand-in keeper Matthew Carter launched Wymondham into attack. Joe Mower hit a post before finally grabbing a well-deserved goal with Michael Russell also finding the woodwork late in the game. With the clock ticking James picked up his second of the game to square the match.

WYMONDHAM TOWN UNITED U13 faced Salhouse. The strong opposition outplayed WTU for the majority of this match. Wymondham were unable to penetrate into the opposition’s territory as their improved passing over the past few weeks deserted their play. This presented Salhouse with the opportunity to develop wave after wave of attacks, however excellent defending from Jamie, Harry and Callum and Matt prevented a number of goal-scoring opportunities. James made two good saves and Nathan broke free just before the interval but his effort was well saved by the keeper. WTU’s ability to clear from corners and crosses was shown up as Salhouse took a 3-0 half-time lead from these sources. Henry and Oliver tried to prompt from midfield in the second half and wide players Luke B and Daniel had little opportunity to attack as they were forced to defend good attacking from Salhouse. Luke L shot wide when well placed and Oliver H showed good energy in a second-half appearance. Salhouse scored two further goals to make the final score 5-0. PoM: Callum, strong defensive display throughout.

HETHERSETT U10 travelled to local rivals Wymondham. Hethersett kicked off against the wind and with pitch hard and bobbly they could not get hold of the ball and play their passing game. Hethersett were defending well but lacked creativity. Half-way through the first half Aiden and Ben L played a one-two which Aiden shot but the ball went wide. Ben L then had a free-kick which just went over and Aiden again shot with the keeper just keeping the ball out. In the second half with the wind behind Hethersett and the defensive trio of Ryan, Kieran and Ben K solid they started to push on more. Daegan was getting stuck in well and with a first-time shot from 20 yards the ball crashed against the underside of the bar and with all our arms raised to celebrate the goal it was not given. This gave Hethersett hope and with Aiden, Ben L and Max all having chances they just could not make the break through.

ATTLEBOROUGH U11 travelled to play old friends Catton whom they had never managed to beat. A forceful run from Kindred resulted in a penalty that Miles slotted home. Kindred, who was having as stormer, then burst through again to smash a second. This was the signal for the floodgates to open and great all-round team play resulted in further strikes from Wiseman, Miles, Kindred and Bevis to deliver a remarkable 6-0 half-time score in front of a larger than usual contingent of travelling supporters. The second half could not match the first with Catton scoring a late consolation. Final score: 6-1. Once again the boys showed they are a match for any team in the county but, in order to progress, consistency is the key. Well done all 12 players.

WYMONDHAM TOWN LIZARDS U10 went 1-0 up in the first two minutes after good work from Curtis Bell allowed Jacob Bush to finish neatly with his right foot into the bottom corner. Soon after this a long Henry Metcalf throw was sliced into his own net by a Mulbarton defender for 2-0. The third arrived within the first 10 minutes after Henry smashed a drive with the outside of his foot into the top corner. Mulbarton never gave up and Sonny Clarke, Luke Hunt and Connor Milligan had to be on their toes to ensure that the visitors did not get on the scoresheet. Josh Bush was introduced at the start of the second half and was unlucky with a nice strike from the edge of the area that the keeper saved. Lewis Thurston, as always, was making things tick from the middle of midfield. Town had to wait until the last 10 minutes for the remainder of the goals. Town were awarded a penalty, up stepped Bryn Mullen and drove straight down the middle of the goal forcing the keeping into a fine stop although the rebound was crashed in by Sonny. Town completely switched off at this point and Mulbarton pulled a goal back giving Connor no chance. The fifth goal then arrived when Sonny again was on hand to divert a Henry free-kick past the keeper Final score: 5-1. Wymondham MoM: Connor Milligan. Opposition MoM: Henry Metcalf.

WYMONDHAM TOWN UNITED U10 hosted Hethersett at the weekend with a full-strength team and hoping to gain their third win of the season. Both teams had early chances in an even first half with Will F going close twice for United, while alert defending by Jack B, Massimo and Daniel had kept the visitors at bay. Daniel then tested their keeper with a nice effort but the dry, bumpy pitch and gusting wind was frustrating both teams and the first half ended goalless. After the break Hethersett took control and a great shot off the bar was somehow recovered by keeper Ollie. Sub Lucas then added some more bite in the team and after looking likely to go behind early in the half, the boys nearly stole the win when Karin’s shot was saved and then Daniel, Christy and Will F with a great passing move just failed to prise open the Hethersett defence. Final score: 0-0. A valuable point. MoM: Daniel Watson, non-stop effort.

WYMONDHAM U15 travelled away to play a very strong Norwich United side. The game started evenly but it was Norwich who made the breakthrough with a goal on the counter attack. However, Wymondham defended well throughout the rest of the first half and went in at half-time 1-0 down. Wymondham dominated the majority of the second half but a second and then a third goal from a corner put Norwich 3-0 up. A superb strike from Joe Bush gave Wymondham hope, but despite creating plenty of chances they just couldn’t find the net. Final score: Norwich United 3, Wymondham 1. MoM: Matt Guy.
