EVENING NEWS NORWICH SUNDAY LEAGUE: The leagues games went ahead last Sunday but, as in past seasons, some clubs struggled to field a side mainly through players being away on holiday. Premier Division champions Marlborough were one of them, starting with nine players against Quebec Rovers, but they started full of fighting qualities taking a 2-0 lead.

Quebec scored through Dave Matthews to make it 2-1 but Marlborough soon went to the other end to make it 3-1 and the final score, their goals from J Armes (2) and D McKail.

Newly-promoted AFC Wanderers had a real battle against Dog House, the latter winning 3-0 with goals from Olly King, Matthew Banham and Josh Barzey.

Bertram Arms had a 4-1 win over newly-promoted Salhouse Rovers in a good game. M Racher scored two goals for Bertrams with new signings L Tuttle scoring and a fourth from K White, Salhouse goal N Woolner. The third promoted club Unthank Arms lost 7-0 to Poringland, Matt Williams (2), Jon Cogman (2), Matt Elwin, Richard Wortley and Sam Goff.

Hethersett shared the points in a 3-3 draw with The Grove, Hethersett's goals L Barrett 2 and M Thurlow.

In Division 1A Silver Fox got off to a good start with a 3-1 win over Norwich CEYMS with scorers Stefan Self (2) and Steve Poulton, N Makove getting CEYMS' goal. Hellesdon Athletic beat Champion Athletic 3-1 with goals from Darren Smith (2) and David Pollard, Champions goal I Babb.

Hainford YCOB were 3-1 victors over Angel Gardens with goals by Ashley Collins, Mark Critten and Steve Van Raalte. Aylsham Black Boys won 7-1 at Nth Walsham Town, scorers Danny Sutton (3), Billy Edwards (2), Paul Wheeler and James Nichols, Walsham's goal Lee Clarke.

In Division 1B Aylsham Sunday conceded three late goals to give Acle a 3-0 win, scorers Barry Gow, Simon Hilburn and Adrian Coote. Hillside OB lost

13-1 at Costessey Sports, Hillside goal from T Nudd, Costessey goals from Scot Roberts (6), Tiago Merze (2), Paul Lewis (3), Matthew Wrath and Luke Johnstone. Wymondham Rangers got a 6-2 win over nine-man Prince of Denmark. Their goals were from Tom Amis (3), James Well, Chris Priest, Simon Cracknell. Denmark's goals from Chris Holmes.

Haig beat Manor Park 3-2, Haig's goals from David Payne, Charlie Skipper and Glen Thurston, Manor's goals from Billy Cunningham 2.

Gilson Bailey got a 2-0 win at Nelson, goals from Jatinder Dhalival and own goal.

In Division 2B Costessey Sports Res had a 6-3 at Bayer (Wayne Nelson hat-trick) with Costessey goals from K Tate 2, D Bush, K Stalker and B Johnson. Horsford SC drew 1-1 with Acle Rangers Res in an entertaining game. R Dack took his goal well for Horsford, Gareth Moore scoring for Acle. North Walsham OB went down 10-3 at home to Drayton. A James scored twice, Walsham pulled two back for 2-2. Drayton added another eight from T Matthews (2), B Mickie, L Easter, M Barker, M Cooper, J Mann and C Michie before Walsham scored their third goal. Old Catton got a 4-3 win over Earlham Ud. Catton went behind then went 4-1 up. Earlham pulled two back to make it 4-3 but Catton held onto their win, scorers for Catton Will Tolliday 2, Jamie Jefferson, Niki Armstrong and their MoM Callum Osborne, Earlham goals from Jason Mudd, Simon Harley, Wayne Wordley and their MoM Matthew Nixon. Spixworth and Norfolk CC drew 1-1, Spixworth's goal Lee Askew, Norfolk CC's R Taylor. Ketts Tavern got a 3-0 win over Thorpe Rovers, scorers Leo Dudley (2) and Scott Ampleford.

In Division 3A Coachmakers got a 5-1 win over Earlham Colney. A good team display by Norman Wdrs A resulted in a 7-1 win over Coltishall Colts. Brickmakers and Stoke got a 0-0 draw. Mad Moose went down 3-2 to Reindeer while DCS Rapid went down 5-2 at home to Deopham. Reepham Town had a 6-2 win over Newsmen Celtic. In Division 3B Hethersett Res got a 3-1 win over Aylsham Sunday Res. St Faiths were 1-0 down at half time against PL Rangers but came back to win 2-1 with two penalties. Sprowston Rovers lost 3-0 to Hingham. Ribs of Beef had a 6-1 win over Unicorns Reserves while Wymondham Rangers Res started the season in style, hitting Wilco Fast Fit 7-2 with a hat-trick from Danny Whitman. In Division 3B Dynamo Denmark beat Felmingham 2-0. In Division 4A Sporting Longdale had a 3-2 win against Pulham United. Upton had a good start with a 7-1 win at Silver Fox Res. Branford Arms beat Temple Bar by 4-3.

Dereham Wdrs, newcomers to the league, won 11-0 against Bowthorpe Ath with Ryan Hardy hitting five. A hard-fought 3-2 win for AFC Oak at Hethersett A. In Division 4B Mischief Tavern beat Freethorpe 3-1 whiile Taverham Sunday won 3-1 against Dancing Farmers. Moles Rest, making their debut in the league, had a 4-0 win at Salhouse Rovers Res.
