Norwich City winger Darren Huckerby revealed his relief at being restored to the left hand side as he reflected on a good night's work against Leicester City on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old has been asked to play on the right hand side and as a second striker by City boss Peter Grant in recent weeks, but returned to his favoured left wing role in the 3-1 victory against Leicester.

Huckerby was instrumental in Carl Robinson's equaliser just before half time and generally caused havoc to the Foxes' defence all evening.

“I think everyone knows that I play better on the left,” said Huckerby. “I can play on the right but I'm much more effective on the left and I was glad to be back over that side doing what I think I do best.

“(Thierry) Henry does the same kind of thing for Arsenal and I've always done it throughout my career. I've always been more comfortable there and as long as it works I'll try to keep doing it.”

The ex-Nottingham Forest man paid tribute to striker Robert Earnshaw, whose strike against Leicester took him to 13 goals for the season.

“I got a lot of good balls in today and luckily we've got people who can finish,” added Huckerby. “When you've got a goalscorer like Earnie up front he only needs a sniff of the goal and he finishes it.

“We're very lucky like that, although Earnie is sometimes not in the game, he's always ready to pounce and get goals when the chances come along.”

Huckerby was also grateful to the Carrow Road faithful for their vocal support against Leicester after the much-publicised spat with Grant for comments made in the wake of the draw against Hull City.

“It's difficult when something is said and I don't really want to go into it too much. But the fans were brilliant - the gaffer asked them to be a bit more vocal and they were, so in that respect it worked.”

The Canaries face a Sunderland side on Saturday fresh from a 2-1 win away at Queen's Park Rangers but Huckerby believes City can go into the game with a lot of confidence.

“It'll be a tough match against Sunderland but after tonight's performance we can go into it with a lot of confidence.”
