Norwich City winger Darren Huckerby is set to make his long awaited comeback from a groin injury in tonight's reserve team clash against Luton Town.

The 31-year-old has not played a single match during the Canaries' pre-season campaign due to a niggling groin strain but will finally get a run out from the start against Luton's second string.

Canaries boss Peter Grant has been reluctant to take any chances over the fitness of his star man but feels that the reserve team match is the ideal opportunity for Huckerby to get some match fitness.

If the former Coventry man comes through the match unscathed then he will come into contention for Saturday's Championship clash against Hull City at the KC Stadium.

The news will come as a massive boost to City fans who had become worried by Huckerby's absence as they feared the injury was more serious than the club was letting on. However, he appears over the problem and will add that touch of creativity the Canaries have lacked at times this season.

His return to fitness will certainly give Grant some food for thought over where he is going fit the talisman into his new-look side.

Canaries reserve team boss Ricky Martin has named a strong starting line-up for the visit of Luton to Carrow Road with the likes of Chris Martin, Luke Chadwick and David Strihavka all set to get some match fitness under their belts alongside Huckerby.

Matthew Gilks will also start while Ryan and Rossi Jarvis will be hoping to do enough to impress the watching scouts to earn a loan move.

Grant is waiting to see how his squad settles down before the transfer window closes and will then decide which players he will let out on loan, but it is anticipated that the Jarvis brothers will be among those available so they can get some first team action.

Martin said: “The game will provide an ideal opportunity for several players to get some match fitness and it is great to be able to name such a strong line-up.”

t Starting line-up: Gilks, Cave-Brown, Spillane, Halliday, Eagle, Chadwick, Martin, Rossi Jarvis, Huckerby, Ryan Jarvis, Strihavka. Subs: Arnold, Smart, Renton, Miller, McLean
