Norwich City match-winner Adam Idah is ‘over the moon’ about his exciting start to the season for club and country.
The 19-year-old earned his first two senior caps for the Republic of Ireland during the international break and came off the bench to score a winner at Huddersfield in the 81st minute, as City made a strong start to their Championship return.
“I was very honoured to play for my country, to get two starts for them, and to get the goal today was just unbelievable for me and my family back home,” said the striker.
“I’m over the moon to be honest and just delighted for the team that we got the win.”
The academy product shot to prominence in January when he became the Canaries’ youngest ever hat-trick scorer, during a 4-2 win at Preston, making 16 appearances in total for the first team - most of which were as a substitute during a disappointing slide to Premier League relegation.

“There’s obviously a lot of things that we need to improve on and we’ll work on them in training, but there are a lot of positives we can take, work on them and hopefully bring them into the next games.”
The teen started both of Ireland’s Nations League games, a 1-1 draw in Bulgaria and a 1-0 home loss to Finland, as his former under-21 boss Stephen Kenny took charge of the senior team.
Idah admitted it had been a pleasant surprise to be starting, saying: “I was just going into the camp to get some experience, to be honest. I was just thinking to myself that I was with the senior squad for the first time and to go out and enjoy it.
“When I saw my name on the team-sheet, I was over the moon to be honest. Going into the game I just had to settle down and be confident and that’s what I did.”
He knows it’s just the start for him though, adding: “People say hard work pays off and that’s what’s happening now, so I’ll just keep my head down, stay focused and anything I can do to help the team, I will.”
