Town joint boss Kevin Boon insisted there is plenty more to come after another impressive pre-season outing at The Walks.

Captain Jack Defty notched his eighth goal this summer since returning to his hometown club to power the Linnets ahead against the Conference Premier outfit.

Chris Tonks' levelled with a superb free kick a minute before the break only for Robbie Harris to sidefoot Town back in front seconds later.

Scott Cubberley was introduced for Defty just past the hour mark and responded to his starting omission with a sharply-taken brace. Lynn's front three have now scored in all six of their friendly victories and Boon is promising Town will entertain in the United Counties League this season.

“It's going to be entertaining, we believe in going forward and I love doing that all the time because I am a Kevin Keegan fan,” said Boon. “But with our back four we also have strong lads and good footballers. We took Jack off because we wanted a look at Robbie and Cubbs, if Jack got injured, and the pace and movement was very good with Billy Smith there as well. It may have hurt Cubbs to be left on the bench but he showed plenty of aggression. If we lose big Jack for a couple of games we need to have options.”

Defty was a constant menace in another eye-catching cameo since re-joining from Conference North club Corby.

“Jack is Jack. He still needs another 25 per cent fitness put into him but he's scoring goals and you can't complain about that,” said Boon. “There is plenty more to come from everyone and that dressing room is buzzing. It feels so close, the comradeship in the dressing room with the players and the coaches, we are all part of it and the whole club is going forward. But I've said it already - that's six games, six wins now and no points and we have to keep our feet on the floor.”

Centre back Martin McNeil also featured against his former club after missing the weekend win over Needham Market with an on going neck problem.

“We wanted to give him 45 minutes or so because he has this niggle in his muscle and he has had treatment on it,” said Boon. “But Martin knows there is competition for places. Myself and Setch (Gary Setchell) don't look at them as fringe players. We left Kyle Plumb out and that was hard but we pick the side and he came on with 30 minutes to go and carried on his form from Saturday.”

Boon admitted Lynn's management demanded a higher tempo after United's youthful midfield had enjoyed a prolonged spell of first half possession.

“A few things were said at half time and I thought we got very, very deep at times,” said Boon. “We did sit off them and that was what we pointed out. We like to play a high line and they were making the most of the space behind but after the break we showed what we are about and put the result to bed.”
