Norwich City are on course for the highest scoring season in the club's long history.

City's prolific strikers are making mincemeat of recent scoring records, helping City to plunder 59 goals in 26 games so far this season.

That's an average of 2.27 goals a game - and at the current rate it means City could finish the season with a staggering 104 goals.

City have never breached the three-figure mark in their 108-year history - and not since Manchester City returned to the top flight with 108 goals in 2001-02 has anyone else.

The last time City averaged more than two goals a game was in 1985-86, when they won the Division Two title with 84 goals in 42 games - dead on two a game - with Kevin Drinkell providing 22 of them.

The current best scoring record goes back to 1952-53, when City scored 99 goals in 46 games - an average of 2.15 a game - to finish fourth in the old Division Three South. Their nearest rivals in the scoring stakes in the FootballLeague are League Two leaders Rochdale with 54 from 25 matches, while in the Premier League Arsenal have netted 55 goals in just 21 games.

City's current goals tally is actually better than the final totals for the past five seasons.

Leading scorer Grant Holt has 17 league goals - plus six in cup games - while Chris Martin and Wes Hoolahan have provided 10 each, the first time since 1981-82 that three City players have reached double figures in the league.

But the City trio's 37-goal haul has already bettered that of Keith Bertschin (12) Ross Jack (10) and John Deehan (10) which helped City to promotion from the old Division Two.

Holt is just two shy of the 19 league goals scored by Robert Earnshaw in 2006-07 and Iwan Roberts in 1998-99 and is on course to break the 25 scored by Chris Sutton in the 1993-94 Premiership campaign.

City's leading single-season goal scorer is Ralph Hunt, who scored 31 league goals in 1955-56 at a rate of 0.68 goals a game. Holt is currently on 0.65 goals a game - and that could mean a final season total of 30 goals, which would pip Percy Verco (29 in 1927-28) for second place in the all-time seasonal scoring charts.

The Canaries have scored in 20 consecutive league games - the best record since the 1993-94 season when they scored 21 games in a row between November 6 and March 26.

City's 25 goals on their travels make them joint leading scorers away from home with Rochdale and Premier League giants Arsenal.
