Norwich skipper Adam Drury is the latest injury doubt ahead of City's Championship trip to Barnsley after damaging his back in a crunching midweek collision with the advertising boards at Kenilworth Road.

Canaries' boss Peter Grant confirmed his teak tough captain missed training on Thursday to receive treatment on a lower back problem.

“We'll give him as much time as possible but he's struggling,” admitted Grant. “He fell about four feet over the hoarding and it was great credit to the boy he carried on playing. I've no doubt some other players would've come off the pitch. It says a lot about his character and the spirit within the squad as a whole, but it's a bizarre way to get injured - it sums up how things have been going for us.

“I've seen that type of injury many times watching matches. The boards are so close to the pitch and when you've got two players running at full pelt it only takes a touch.”

Luke Chadwick's derby day bow at Ipswich was marred by a gashed knee injury after an innocuous collision with the Portman Road advertising boards.

Grant revealed Chadwick is on course for a playing return later this month. Chris Brown (hamstring) faces a minimum two week lay off following scans on his injured knee.

“Two to three weeks,” said Grant. “He's taken a lot of knocks on his lower back and that has caused a slight strain in the hamstring area. I'm disappointed to lose him because I felt he was getting to the level I expected when I brought him in. His work rate has been first class; he was running the channels and popping up in good areas. Hopefully he'll be back in a couple of weeks.

“I know Chrissy Martin was enjoying playing alongside him and they seemed to be forging a decent partnership.”

Grant must also sweat on the fitness of attacking trio Dion Dublin (calf), Peter Thorne (thigh) and Darren Huckerby (calf/shin) for the Oakwell trip.

“Some of the lads will train and some won't,” he said. “Dion hasn't trained and Hucks is in a similar situation. It was a tough game midweek and he has a badly bruised shin and slight calf strain. He went into the Luton game with a calf problem and thankfully it has not got any worse - so that's a positive. Everyone else is fine.”
