Newsman Celtic secured a shock 2-1 victory against the Wellington Pink Uns in Norwich Sunday League Division 3A in a game made memorable for perhaps the most bizarre own goal of all time – a 30-yard screamer by the Pink Uns goalkeeper.

With the Pink Uns 1-0 up with about half an hour to go the keeper ran out of the right-hand side of his area to collect the loose ball.

As he went to clear it though the ball was blocked by a Newsman midfielder and looped up in the air.

Panicking, the keeper, who had up until this point kept his team in the lead with a string of excellent saves, attempted to volley the ball away only to slice it with his left foot towards the goal.

“The players then watched aghast as the ball curled into the top left-hand corner of the goal from some 30 yards out,” said Newsman defender David Powles.
