Kenny McLean becomes the latest Norwich City player to be unavailable for selection for the Canaries Carabao Cup game against Luton Town next month, with the midfielder named in Scotland’s squad.

The 28-year-old is set to link up with Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army for two Nations League fixtures against Israel (September 4) and the Czech Republic (September 7).

City will travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town in the Carabao Cup first-round on Saturday, September 5 and will be without a host of first-team options.

McLean joins Tim Krul, Michael McGovern, Jamal Lewis, Przemyslaw Placheta, Adam Idah and Jacob Sorensen in missing the Canaries first competitive game of the new season.

Kieran Dowell, Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons, Oliver Skipp, Ben Godfrey, Danel Sinani, Bali Mumba, Josip Drmic and Teemu Pukki could all be called-up for their respective countries in the coming days.

Drmic will be serving the second of his three-match suspension against Luton, as will midfielder Emi Buendia.

Grant Hanley is set to be fit for the start of City’s Championship season but hasn’t been selected by Clarke for the upcoming international fixtures.

McLean has made 10 appearances for Scotland since his debut in 2016. His first goal in international football arrived against San Marino last year.

Former City goalkeeper David Marshall has made the squad following his move to Derby County. The veteran Scot kept 15 clean sheets for Wigan Athletic last season, who were relegated to League One after suffering a points deduction owed to the club falling into administration.

Joining McLean in midfield is Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, Aston Villa’s John McGinn and Sheffield United’s John Fleck.

Clarke described in his press conference that he was looking towards the future with his selection, which included a number of younger players.

McLean offers the Scotland boss some much-needed experience in the squad alongside a host of midfield options that played in the Premier League last season.
