It may be six games unchanged and six wins for Norwich City – but Kenny McLean knows no one is taking their place for granted.

Victory at Rotherham – coupled with Sheffield United’s excellent win at Leeds – made it a healthy weekend for the Championship leaders, extending their gap to four and five points respectively in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Daniel Farke’s men now get an international break to take stock before the tricky trip to faltering Middlesbrough – and when they return, there will be no assumptions at Colney over who will appear at The Riverside.

“We’re on a good run and we’re sticking to the same team but at Middlesbrough it doesn’t mean we’re going to play the same team; the manager will pick the team he feels is best to win that game,” said McLean.

“Everyone knows that and whoever comes out of the team knows we have the strength in depth and the squad, that if someone comes out there is going to be quality coming in. So I think for the players playing, you just need to keep going and doing as much as you can.

“But even when you go in after the game, players that aren’t playing are still over the moon, buzzing for the boys and everybody as a whole. That’s where the togetherness comes in.

“For me, I’ve come in recently and I’ve done OK. The manager has shown his faith in me and I just want to repay him with good performances.

“There are boys that have been in for a lot longer than me and done well, so it’s all about the team and the togetherness, the relationship we have got with the fans, you can see it.

“It’s right throughout the club, it’s all going excellently and we just need to keep that momentum going.”

City’s spirit has been much heralded through late goals and consistently committed performances as they rose up the table.

However as shown by Louis Thompson’s desperation to stay on the pitch and help his team-mates while injured in the East Anglian derby draw at the start of September, the spirit arguably predates the improvement.

“Even at the start of the season when we had a few defeats, the mood was never down round about the place,” added McLean.

“We are in an unbelievable position in life, we are in a job that we love and when you’re in the position we are in, I think you need to enjoy every moment you can.

“It’s such an exciting season to be part of. Some people won’t be in this position in their lives, so it’s excellent. We’re challenging at the top of the league and it can be a memorable season for every player, the fans and the club as a whole.”
