The Linnets met Cheshunt at the Walks today in a game in which the visitors already knew their fate having suffered relegation last Monday. In what is only the third league meeting between the clubs at The Walks, Lynn were expecting to retain their 100 percent record of home victories against a side who have yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels this season.

Lynn were definitely without Gavin Hoyte who was out with a hamstring injury but Ben Chapman's bruised ribs were to have a pre-match fitness test. However, Mark Camm was declared fit and available for selection with Charlie Defty being added to the squad. In the event manager Keith Webb elected to make five changes to the line-up that started against Bedford on Monday. Dean West came in at right-back with Ricky Bains moving to centre-half instead of the injured Hoyte. Mark Camm came back at the expense of Andrew Fisk who returned to the bench while Charlie Defty came in at left-back for Chapman who failed the fitness test. Up front Michael Frew moved from the bench to left-wing to replace Joe Francis who was sidelined with slight medial ligament damage which left four players on the subs' bench.

Cheshunt kicked off on a pitch that had recovered well after being underwater on Friday.

For the visitors Fenton twice created early opportunities but on both occasions shot high over.

For Lynn Sedgemore found Nolan after a good build up on the right flank but the in-form striker this time lifted his effort just over.

However Lynn did take an early lead on 10 minutes when a flowing move involving Dean West and Mark Camm who played in Nolan to calmly go round goalkeeper Bobby Smith and roll the ball into the empty net.

For Lynn Michael Frew then went on a mazy run which took four visiting defenders to stop him on the edge of the box.

For Cheshunt, centre-forward Cox almost levelled as he beat Howie from close range only for Dean West to make a great goal-line clearance putting the ball out for a fruitless corner.

A ball over the top from West then almost put Nolan in again but this time goalkeeper Smith came out on top as he was quickly out of his area to avert the danger.

On 13 minutes Lynn suffered a blow when Ben Sedgemore had to leave the field suffering from an injury to be replaced by Andrew Fisk.

The substitute played a good ball over the top to John Turner but he failed to control the ball and the chance was gone.

When Nolan found Turner who passed inside to Camm the midfielder took an extra touch rather than a first-time shot and his effort was blocked. At this stage play, possibly due to the swirling wind, had now become scrappy with both sides guilty of making misplaced passes.

For Cheshunt Williams was lucky not to be cautioned when his deliberate hand ball stopped a good Lynn passing move, the free kick being wasted.

On 35 minutes Camm found Nolan who put the ball out to Turner whose low cross was cut out by Thorogood as the Lynn forwards closed in for yet another fruitless corner.

As the visitors had a rare attack Crane did well to block a goal-bound attempt from Fenton, Howie completing the clearance.

Lynn ended the half searching for the second goal with Nolan finding Defty who held the ball up well to set up a shot for Mark Camm which was brilliantly palmed away by goalkeeper Smith for a corner.

From Frew's flag kick Jack Defty got in a powerful goal-bound header which was cleared off the line by Parry for yet another corner. Frew again took the kick and as Defty played the ball in Crane had a good header on goal from which Smith again made a brilliant stop.

t Half-time: King's Lynn 1, Cheshunt 0

First action in the second half saw Turner make a right-wing run of 50 yards before crossing to Nolan who played the ball out to West from whose cross Jack Defty was unable to bring the bouncing ball under control with the goal at his mercy before a defender intercepted.

A long clearance from goalkeeper Smith when under pressure caught out Dean West for Cheshunt's Cooper to get in a shot from the edge of the box for Howie to make a good diving save.

When referee Forrester tried to play an advantage Cooper played in Dean Fenton but Charlie Defty was on hand to block the shot.

Frew forced a corner which the goalkeeper dropped but Williams came to his rescue with a timely clearance.

When Jack Defty was fouled the advantage was again attempted to be played but none accrued play was brought back for a free kick on the edge of the box.

Frew took the kick bending the ball round the wall for Smith to make a fine fingertip save. However, John Turner was first to react and slid the ball home for Lynn's second goal on 63 minutes.

Jack Defty then did well to break into the box to cross hard and low with Matt Nolan inches away from reaching the ball.

Lynn went further ahead on 68 minutes with an excellent goal with Fisk winning the ball in midfield playing the ball through to Frew on the left flank who crossed hard for Jack Defty to power in a fierce drive which again Smith did well to parry only to NOLAN who was on hand to tap in for a simple finish.

Minutes later Defty found Nolan with a long through ball who beat one man but the second defender robbed him before he could pass as the Lynn forwards came up.

On 70 minutes Lynn made a substitution with Melton replacing Frew. Cheshunt in a rare attack saw Hicks find Fenton who fired in a shot from which Howie made a comfortable save.

Play quickly switched to the other end where Defty powered a shot just wide.

On 72 minutes a long ball by Defty found Nolan showing good control to round the goalkeeper and roll the ball to STEVE MELTON to slot home from 10 yards.

Lynn now made a further substitution with Bloomfield coming on for Jack Defty.

Cheshunt's Nick Thorogood found his way into referee Paul Forrester's notebook for a foul on Melton. On the right wing for Lynn John Turner received a throw-in taken by West and played a neat ball into Bloomfield but Smith was quickly off his line to block the Lynn forward's goal attempt.

Charlie Defty played a ball up to Nolan who with a deft flick-on to Melton who then played in an excellent ball that Turner was only inches away to apply a finish.

The second Cheshunt player to go in the book was centre-half Williams after he brought down Fisk when in full flight. From the free-kick taken by Melton saw his shot blocked out to Mark Camm who in turn had another effort charged down before Nolan hit the rebound over the crossbar.

Cheshunt tried hard for a consolation goal when after Howie miskicked a back pass skipper Dave Hicks powered a shot inches wide.

Just before the end Fisk was cautioned for a tackle on Gerald and from the free kick substitute Giambrone produced a great save from Howie.

Lynn had totally dominated the second half to keep their promotion drive well on track.
