King's Lynn's hometown keeper Danny Gay is urging Carl Heggs' squad to carry on where they left off in tonight's Unibond Premier Division trip to Frickley (7.45pm).

Lynn's makeshift side ended Kendal's unbeaten home record at the weekend and Gay is confident his team is beginning to underline their own promotion credentials.

“To win at potentially one of the best sides in our league shows what we are capable of,” he said. “I think the gaffer is striving to make one or two additions that can bolster us even further as well, but we're only 12 or 13 games in and leagues aren't won at this stage.

“Yes, I know we've played a game or two more than other sides, but they have to go to places like Kendal and win if we can manage to stay in and around it. Now we've got something to build on again, just like after the wins over Hucknall and Bradford.”

Gay believes Lynn's back-up players proved their mettle by toppling Kendal in a team minus seven regulars through injury and suspension.

“Going to Kendal is like the end of the world from King's Lynn,” he said. “We won't go anywhere harder the rest of the season. If you asked the gaffer to pick from all the players who have joined the club then maybe only four or five of the side would've started, but that shows the character of the boys.

“We have to thank Michael Chinn for allowing us to stay overnight as well. It makes a big difference. If you're getting up at 7am in the morning and having to travel for up to six hours then you aren't fresh. We rode our luck a little at times but the back three were outstanding and at the other end we had lads who caused all sorts of problems. If you'd been in the changing room at full time you'd have see 15 or so boys who were so pleased for each other.”

Gay produced a top class save to keep Kendal at bay in the first half and the former Norwich academy youngster admits he is loving life back on home turf.

“I thought I'd be really struggling as it was bending further and further away from me on the cross wind,” he said. “But I just got a touch to divert it on to the bar. It was important to go in 0-0 at the break instead of 1-0 down because the game changes. We saw that against Nantwich.

“I was disappointed to concede three goals against them but overall I've been pleased with my performance and I don't think I could've done any better. When I signed it was an opportunity to come home. I had the chance to go abroad, which I was debating, but to get this offer meant playing in front of friends. I want to do well for my hometown club and get it to where it belongs - which is at least Conference North. With the people we have here then I feel there is every chance.”

Player/boss Heggs is available tonight after serving his one match ban at the weekend but top scorer Anthony Robinson is still suspended.
