Liverpool’s assistant manager Peter Krawietz has praised Norwich City’s playing style and hopes success will return to Carrow Road soon.
Jurgen Klopp’s right-hand man at Anfield believes the Canaries were incredibly courageous with their approach in the top-flight despite suffering relegation.
Krawietz joined Klopp from former club Borussia Dortmund in 2015 and is a long-serving assoiciate to the German.
The pair first met during their spell at Mainz, and he is often referred to as ‘the Eye’ by the Reds boss for his expertise in scouting and analysis.
Speaking of his admiration for the Canaries playing philosophy, Krawietz said: “How this club has managed to stay true to its footballing line, to which they have devoted themselves in the second division, is really very commendable.”
City faced Liverpool on the opening day of the season last August. They lost 4-1 on the evening and many pundits opted to criticise Daniel Farke’s style by labelling it as naive.
Krawietz has praised the Canaries for sticking to their principles in spite of their struggles and hopes that will lead to further success in the Championship.
“They announced it before the first match day and actually pulled it off.
“That was not crowned with success in the table, but for that reason alone I hope that they will benefit from this again in the next season in order to achieve the necessary results,” Liverpool’s coach told German outlet Spox.
The Reds were crowned Premier League champions for the first time last season, with Klopp’s culture now deeply ingrained into the club’s fabric.
Krawietz’s praise may not come as a surprise to City supporters, who have watched Liverpool’s very public pursuit of left-back Jamal Lewis over the last fortnight.
The Northern Irish international was tipped for a move to Anfield but City were left feeling frustrated at the derisory nature of the bid received from the Premier League champions.
Klopp’s side eventually signed Greek full-back Kostas Tsimikas after deciding against a further bid for Lewis.
Despite suggestions in the north west that City’s youngster would put in a transfer request, that is not the case, with the 22-year-old keen to continue with progression under Farke.
