Tim Krul believes he is in contention for a return to international action with Holland but is well aware that a recall will only arrive if he continues his good form for Norwich City.

The former Newcastle favourite has eight Netherlands caps and provided cover at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup - where he came on as a substitute for a penalty shoot-out against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals and made two crucial saves.

Valencia keeper Jasper Cillessen is the Dutch number one, with Jeroen Zoet of PSV Eindhoven and Kenneth Vermeer his competition in Ronald Koeman's last squad.

"I never close that door, but I just want to focus on Norwich at the moment," Krul said.

"I've been in contact with the Dutch squad and I'm on the radar again for sure, but my main aim is to focus on Norwich."

Krul's career was disrupted by a serious knee injury while on European qualifying duty in Kazakhstan in October 2015, after landing awkwardly on an artificial pitch in Astana. The 31-year-old got his career back on track as an ever-present during City's title triumph in the Championship last season though - which he is hoping to repeat.

"Playing every match again is definitely up there," he added, of his targets for this campaign.

"Staying up in the division is the big target for all of us. That would make me proud and I feel like we've got the quality in the squad to not just make up the numbers, but to prove to people that we are a top side."

His continued good form after returning to the Premier League has kept Schalke loanee Ralf Fahrmann on the bench so far but Krul insists he has a good relationship with his team-mate.

"We've been quite lucky," he continued, speaking to City's matchday programme. "Ralf is a similar age to me and we've been through similar periods in our careers, so we get on really well.

"Michael McGovern was there for me all of last year and that hasn't changed one bit. We've got two young goalkeepers as well in Aston Oxborough and Nick Hayes, so we've got a nice group.

"We have to give a special mention to our goalkeeping coach, Ed Wootten, because he is our gaffer to a certain extent. He keeps the group together and makes sure everyone is at a top level if called upon."
