Leicester boss: We feel ref got it wrong

Leicester manager Rob Kelly felt this side were denied a precious point when Norwich were awarded a late penalty Carrow Road - but refused to criticise referee Andy D'Urso for awarding the spot-kick.

Kelly's players were furious when the Essex official pointed the spot as Darren Huckerby tumbled in the box under a challenge from Richard Stearman.

The game was delicately poised at 1-1 at the time and Leon McKenzie's successful conversion enabled the Canaries to take three-hard earned points from a fixture that Leicester looked capable of winning.

Kelly felt his team deserved something out of the game but didn't take his frustration out on the man in the middle.

"Mr D'Urso is a good referee," he said. "He has had a decision to make and we feel he got it wrong but we'll just take that on the chin and move on to the next one.

"It was a very difficult decision for him to have to make because the game is played at such a fast pace these days.

"Huckerby is a clever player who runs at people and he has fallen in the box.

"The referee has got a hard job to do in those situations and let's just say his decision to award a penalty was harsh.

"We respect officials at this football club but, in the heat of the moment, some of our players let their frustrations get the better of them. I can understand that but to be fair to the officials they had another tough decision to make in the first-half with Norwich's first goal.

"We felt it might have been offside but replays have shown the two players were level when the pass was played so all credit to them for that.”

Leicester had hauled themselves back into the game when Gareth Williams cancelled out Rob Earnshaw's opener.

"I was very pleased with the attitude of the players today, and the way they played,” Kelly added.

"It was pretty even in the first half and then I thought we took the game to them and could have easily come away with all three points.

"Even when the penalty went in the players still kept battling. It was a real kick in the teeth for them but they refused to lie down and die and could easily have got something from the game at the end.”
