The games against Leicester City and Bristol City have shown qualities in our team that most of us fans have only dreamed about for years.

Not since the last heady weeks of our promotion season under Nigel Worthington have we seen such a sense of purpose and a toughness in both players and management.

This winning mentality may - or may not be - enough in the end, but it is certainly giving the fans action-packed, exciting and skilful games to watch.

Compared with the superstars playing for our richer rivals in the top six and down the A140 at Portman Road, our collection of League One and out-of-favour players have held their own and thrived at this level.

This has to be down to hard work from everyone involved from the boardroom, the management team and the whole squad. All we fans can hope for is that this effort is rewarded.

This is a stressful time for everyone. Paul Lambert has his team focused on themselves and their performance in the next game. The supporters can only do the same, but we absolutely know the only sure way to promotion is eight wins!

We really could have done without the distraction of the will he/won’t he Craig Mackail-Smith saga. Initially it seemed too good to be true, then it seemed a probability, then confused, and currently unlikely - at least until the summer.

CMS is a top striker for Peterborough, and integral to their promotion hopes - so why would they want to let Norwich take him now? Perhaps they thought we would shell out all that well-documented 2 million for players that wasn’t spent in the transfer window - and then some more!

Every player has his price, but the quoted 3 million for CMS seems a greedy over-valuation. And now Sky is reporting that QPR, on the strength of CMS coming to Carrow Road being a done deal, are putting together a bid for Grant Holt.

If this is a genuine bid it is presumably being made without reference to the QPR manager? Neil Warnock’s comments about Holt, inferring he routinely cheats, seemed to affect referees’ decisions for several subsequent games while Holt was being fouled with no action taken.

Amazing, when you remember that there were a lot of doubters in the summer who thought Grant Holt wouldn’t be able to make the step up to the Championship!

Paul Lambert is trying hard to bring in a loan striker before the window closes next week. Let’s hope there is someone out there with the spirit and talent of Henri Lansbury who actually wants to play football.
