King's Lynn chairman Ken Bobbins predicts big-spending Harrogate pose the biggest threat yet to his club's unbeaten Blue Square North league start.

Bobbins says Keith Webb's men will need all their fighting spirit tomorrow at second-placed Town after Neil Aspin's title challengers swatted aside play-off chasing Stalybridge Celtic last time out.

“It's a very difficult game but one I'm looking forward to,” said Bobbins. “Harrogate for me will be the benchmark of how far we've come and maybe how far we have to go. They spent money in the summer and I think they've spent again since the season started. But we've shown already we are more than capable of competing in this league. The team spirit is fantastic because within that run we've had to come back three or four times from deficits in games.

“I think everyone within the club was taken aback initially by the good football some of the teams have produced. We expected the sheer physical side and pace of this league but I'm absolutely delighted with how things are going. We have our detractors but we haven't lost a league match since January. That's something like 30 games. It's not down to luck. It's down to the hard work Keith and the boys have put in.”

Webb is under no illusions the club's record-breaking unbeaten run must end some time.

“I don't want people to think I'm getting paranoid but sooner or later we will lose a league game,” he said. “The only thing you know for certain is anything can happen in football and Harrogate will be a battle and a half. We've picked up two home wins now and obviously we would like to go and do that away but it's not going to be easy because at times we have had to ride our luck.”

Webb insists Lynn can mix it with their highly fancied hosts in Yorkshire.

“I read with interest how Glenn Roeder was saying his side are top of the running stats,” said Webb. “To be fair the amount my boys do is phenomenal but sometimes we're our own worst enemies. Look at the Manchester Uniteds of this world and I'm sure they wouldn't be near the top in that respect because they are better with the ball. My boys are honest as the day is long but at times we need to show more discipline and pass it simple.

“We have attacking players like Joe (Francis) and Michael (Frew) who love to run with the ball but its getting that balance. Frewy has been outstanding. He is full of confidence and now has added that strength to his play. He's got all the ability you need to operate on either flank. People have been critical of him in the past, quite rightly, but he has started this season very well.”
