King's Lynn boss Keith Webb yesterday warned that the club's league limbo threatens to derail a serious Blue Square Premier promotion push.

Webb has been forced to suspend his squad building plans with Nuneaton's impending Blue Square North demotion and lingering fears over Boston United's league status.

Nuneaton are poised to go into administration this week - a move leading to automatic relegation under Conference rules.

Lynn's neighbours Boston recently announced they had reached agreement to come out of administration - but the Pilgrims still face the threat of expulsion for breaching league regulations.

Meanwhile, Midlands-based club Redditch are floating the idea of a possible league switch with Lynn after being initially placed in Blue Square South. Lynn's title-winning boss expects no final resolution before the Conference annual meeting on June 7.

"It's a bloody nightmare," said Webb. "We're caught between a rock and a hard place. I got a phone call before the weekend saying we are 95pc certain to be in the North but to hold fire. We still have a slim chance of being in the South.

"I can't go and promise new players anything until we definitely know. I've had to start targeting southern-based players again, which is all I need. We're telling players in both areas what the situation is. At the end of the day, as much as it's frustrating it's something totally out of my control.

"I know we originally looked at being switched to the South and Redditch don't want to be in the South. But that is a can of worms. If you favour one club then it affects another club somewhere else."

Webb has confirmed that Cambridge United's recently released strike duo Leo Fortune-West and Dan Chillingworth are not on his target list. He has had no fresh contact with former loan defender Rikki Bains after the ex-Tamworth man turned down a one-year deal.

Webb hinted he is tracking young defensive recruits Andrew Cave-Brown and Matthew Halliday after their Norwich City release.

"Matthew was one I spoke to last season," said Webb. "At that point in time he felt he could do better than King's Lynn which was entirely down to him. But I haven't shut the door. Andy is another one. Obviously they are perhaps looking at Football League clubs but failing that, then they know where we are.

"Rikki Bains has not come back to me since. No, I'm not interested in the two lads who were at Cambridge. We've got other irons in the fire."

Webb began his summer recruitment with a move for Bromsgrove midfielder David Bridgwater after the former Preston trainee impressed in both league tussles against the Linnets.

"I know that will surprise a good few people," said Webb. "But in my opinion he was one of the two best midfielders who stood out against us last season. At our place I felt he really showed a lot of the qualities I am looking for in that area of the pitch. I tried to get him during the season. Now we are going up a level he is prepared to make that commitment. He's a ball player with a good presence."

The club's ticket office at The Walks will open again this Saturday (9am to noon) to allow supporters one final chance to buy season tickets pegged at 2007/08 prices.
