King's Lynn boss Tommy Taylor is warning his players not to take liberties with Southern League, Premier Division whipping boys Chesham at The Walks today.

Taylor's side has emerged unscathed from a testing recent spell against their promotion rivals.

A power-packed display blew away league leaders Chippenham last time out and Taylor is demanding the upward curve continues against the Generals.

The high-profile appointment of ex-Watford, AC Milan and England striker Luther Blissett has failed to halt an alarming 17-match winless run for the visitors, but Taylor insists Lynn must be on their guard.

"Let's hope it's 18 matches by Saturday night," he said. "We've worked hard against some good sides lately so I don't want us to throw it away. When a new manager arrives he usually looks to bring in new players and the ones already there have to prove they are good enough to stay.

"There won't be any complacency on our part. The first half against Chippenham has set the standard now. I wasn't surprised at the quality because I see that in training. We won the ball high up the pitch, put pressure on them and took some of our chances.

"That is the benchmark for the lads and we can't afford to take our foot off the pedal. If you let your concentration slip any side is capable of grabbing the initiative. Beating Chippenham was vital because we need to take points off sides above us, but we must also pick up points in games we are expected to win."

Lynn's surprising 1-0 defeat in August's corresponding fixture proves Taylor's men cannot afford to treat Chesham lightly.

"I looked at our results the other day and for me we have dropped at least 12 silly points," he admitted. "Without that we would be running away with this league. In certain games early on we gave away cheap goals or failed to take our chances. Chesham was one, but I also remember Rugby at our place and Halesowen when we lost after battering them."

Wide man Matt O'Halloran is fit after X-rays revealed no serious damage to the wrist injured in the midweek friendly defeat against Norwich United. Adam Smith returns after missing the Chippenham match and keeper John Higgs is drafted back into the squad following his lengthy lay-off with a dislocated shoulder.

Taylor also has his pick of Lynn's second string with no reserve fixture.

"We will get everyone down early and have a good work-out," he said.

"Higgsy did nothing wrong against Norwich United, but he needs to build his match fitness up in the reserves. Getting beat in a friendly doesn't worry me, it just allowed us to tick over and we've had a couple of decent fitness sessions."

Blissett, who had a spell with Fakenham at the end of his career, has already recruited seven new faces since taking over last month and the Chesham boss is braced for further surgery after shipping eight goals in his opening two matches.

"Hand on heart, it would be difficult to say I'm confident of staying up," he said in the aftermath of last weekend's 5-2 home defeat to Yate. "When I came in I told them they would have a chance to show me they are better than what they have been doing. They've shown me they don't take in what you ask so they know changes have to be made."
