King's Lynn last night signed former Cambridge United skipper Mark Peters. Club officials completed a deal for the 35-year-old defender following his release from last season's losing Blue Square Premier play off finalists. Peters made 35 league appearances in United's march to a Wembley final defeat against Exeter in May but the out of contract defender was released as part of cost cutting measures. The former Welsh U21 international started his career at Man City before a nine month spell at Norwich City under Mike Walker without making the breakthrough at Carrow Road. Peters made more than 100 Football League appearances for Peterborough and Mansfield then helped Rushden & Diamonds clinch promotion to the Football League in 2001. Market Harborough-based Peters - who turns 36 tomorrow - was also a key member of the Diamonds' squad that won promotion to League One in 2003 before a two year stint at Orient. Peters' move to the ambitious Blue Square North outfit comes three days after Julian Joachim's high profile unveiling at The Walks. The experienced defender is Lynn boss Keith Webb's fourth close season capture following the earlier summer arrivals of defender Simon Weaver and midfielder David Bridgwater.
