King's Lynn boss Keith Webb insists tonight's pre-season match up against a Norwich City XI at The Walks is the acid test of his side's summer preparations.

Webb is relishing the prospect of facing his former club who are poised to send a squad of fringe first teamers, young professionals and academy prospects.

Established senior trio Chris Martin, Simon Lappin and Luke Chadwick all featured in the Canaries' recent friendly defeat at Dereham and could be involved again along with any members of Glenn Roeder's senior party not involved in last night's Carrow Road friendly against Carling Cup winners Tottenham.

Webb is focused on ironing out some flaws in his team ahead of Lynn's Blue Square North kick-off on August 9.

"I want us to work on one or two things I wasn't happy about at Stamford," he said. "I expect to see a reaction and I know who ever Norwich send it will be a tough one for us. We've not had any indications but it'll perhaps be a little stronger than the squad that played at Dereham. I don't know if they might want to give players who didn't feature against Tottenham a run out. I would expect Paul (Stephenson) to be in charge but if Glenn and Lee came across they would be made to feel more than welcome."

Defender Ben Chapman (groin) was rested at Stamford and Webb will take no injury risks with his squad ahead of another predicted warm evening.

"It should be a bit cooler than the weekend but playing against full-time lads has to help our fitness," he said. "Chappers just has a groin strain that is restricting his movement. With the pitches so hard at this time of year it would be silly to take any chances. I've not heard from any of the other boys so I assume that we've come out of the weekend okay on that front."

Webb admits playing the Canaries is extra special for him after more than two decades of service before helping plot Lynn's successful Southern League, Premier Division title win.

"It's a game I will look forward to," he said. "I had a great time there but I wanted to try and test myself as a manager. I enjoy being the person who has the final say and makes the final decisions although I still try to get out and do the coaching side of things.

"We've had some success here now but I'm under no illusions. If we don't start well this season then the pressure comes on and you expect that. I have a year on my contract and I would love nothing better than to take this club forward.

"A lot of people here want to get us in the Conference Premier and who knows what could be achieved from there."

SPECIAL NIGHT: Keith Webb.
