It was an eventful evening of action for Norwich City loanees and former players in the League Cup first round, contributing to some notable upsets.

City striker Carlton Morris started for Rotherham as the Millers raced into a 2-0 lead within three minutes at fellow League One club Shrewsbury, where Morris previously enjoyed a successful season on loan.

Morris' header led to Kyle Vassell making it 2-0 during the 4-0 win, however, he clashed heads with Luke Waterfall and both had to go off after treatment.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne confirmed Morris was okay after the game but that he needed to be monitored for possible concussion, with a home tie against Sheffield Wednesday or Bury awaiting in round two.

Canaries academy product Harry Toffolo set up the only goal as League One side Lincoln City claimed the scalp of Huddersfield, fresh from relegation from the Premier League.

The left-back's cross was turned in by Harry Anderson to send the Imps through to the second round and pile more pressure on Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert - earning a home tie against Everton in the second round.

Two former City players were in the thick of the grudge match between League One sides AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons. Scottish midfielder Conor McGrandles had missed an early penalty for the Dons but made up for his miss with an equaliser in the 16th minute.

McGrandles and former Norwich captain Russell Martin both played all of the 2-2 draw but then both converted their penalties in a 4-2 penalty shootout success to tee up a trip to Southend in the next round.

It was a less memorable evening for Canaries loanee Rocky Bushiri, with the Belgium Under-21 defender making his first start for League One side Blackpool but scoring an own goal and picking up a yellow card in a 2-2 draw, which concluded in a 4-2 shootout loss to League Two team Macclesfield.

Former City U23s midfielder Ebou Adams helped League two side Forest Green Rovers claim a scalp, drawing 0-0 away to Championship new boys Charlton, before scoring one of the penalties as the visitors won the shootout 5-3 - setting up a trip to top-flight Bournemouth.

It was a similar story for striker Tristan Abrahams, who was let go by the Canaries at the end of last season, as he scored for Newport County to draw 2-2 at Gillingham.

The fourth-tier side then beat their League One hosts 4-1 on penalties, with Abrahams scoring the decisive spot-kick, earning a home tie against Premier League team West Ham in the second round.

Elsewhere, in loan league action, defender Caleb Richards maintained his record of starting every United Soccer League game of the season for Tampa Bay Rowdies but couldn't prevent a 1-0 home loss to Legion FC on Sunday, missing the opportunity to reclaim the Championship Southern Conference top spot from New York Red Bulls II.

City U23s midfielder Charlie Gilmour played the full match as Telstar started their season with a 0-0 draw at AZ Alkmaar II in the Dutch second tier on Monday.

U23s midfielder Alfie Payne came on in the 64th minute as King's Lynn Town rescued a point in National League North, with a late Adam Marriott penalty earning a 1-1 draw at Brackley.

Canaries goalkeeper Aston Oxborough kept a second successive clean sheet during a win as Wealdstone won 1-0 at home against Chippenham Town on Tuesday to move up to second place in National league South.
