Assistant manager Doug Livermore has left the club in a backroom shake-up that sees Jim Duffy and Bryan Gunn join the Canaries' coaching team.

Livermore has stepped down from his role by mutual agreement with immediate effect with Duffy taking his place as manager Peter Grant's right hand man.

In another surprising move Gunn has left his job as community ambassador at Carrow Road to take up a new club liaison post at Colney.

But it is the news of Livermore's departure that will surprise some but the former Liverpool coach said he will take only fond memories with him away from Carrow Road.

He said: “Norwich City is a magnificent football club with great supporters. I've had twelve and a half wonderful years here - five as a player and the last seven and a half years as assistant manager. It has been a wonderful experience which I have enjoyed immensely.”

Grant wished Livermore luck for the future. “I'm really disappointed and sorry to see him go but at the end of the day we're going our separate ways and one thing is for sure - wherever he goes next I know he will enjoy himself and be a big success.”

Grant said he is delighted to be bringing in his two Scottish compatriots, in Duffy and Gunn, to work alongside him and first team coach Martin Hunter.

On Duffy he said: “We are very fortunate to have secured the services of someone with Jim's vast experience and knowledge of the game. He was an excellent player, he's been an excellent coach north and south of the border and he's got an impressive managerial CV.

“Other clubs have approached him and that's why it was important for me to get him down here to sell Norwich City and what we're trying to do here to him. Jim's knowledge of the game in England and Scotland is huge and that's going to be a major plus for me and for Norwich City.”

Grant also revealed that he sees persuading Gunn to swap his suit for a pair of boots as a vital step in moulding a new-look set-up at the club.

“He will be having an input into the work we do with the players but the main thing for me is to capitalise on Gunny's extensive contacts he's gained throughout the game.

“Sir Alex Ferguson, Steve Bruce, Martin O'Neill...the list goes on and on and I know that when other clubs pick up the phone to talk business and hear that it's Bryan at the other end that will be immensely valuable to us.”
