Former Norwich City midfielder Gary Holt has signed for Lowestoft Town until the end of the season.

The 36-year-old left his role as player/coach at League One Colchester United following Paul Lambert's departure for Norwich, and has decided to team up with former Canaries team-mate Craig Fleming, who is first team coach at Crown Meadow.

The Trawler Boys are top of Ryman League Division One North, two games from the first round of the FA Cup and still in the FA Trophy as they take on their first season outside the Eastern Counties League since being formed.

Holt made 182 appearances for City, scoring three goals between 2001 and 2005, helping Norwich to the Division One play-off final in his second year at the club, as well as the Division One title two seasons later.

Last season he was a regular in the Wycombe Wanderers side that won promotion from League Two, and the Scot will be hoping he can achieve another success after signing for joint bosses Micky Chapman and Ady Gallagher.
