Two games, two defeats – but it will take more than that to puncture the feelgood bubble around Lowestoft Town at the moment.

Jamie Godbold’s side have twice gone down to narrow defeats thanks to late goals over the past week but supporters have been buoyed by the sight of a young side trying to play progressive football.

They will be hoping it brings dividends in the form of points before long, starting this afternoon at home to Hitchin Town (kick-off 3pm), who have also lost both their opening games.

But perhaps more importantly at this stage Lowestoft look to have turned the corner off the field upon the news that Gary Keyzor has been re-installed as chairman on an initial 12-month period.

Keyzor was of course the man who bankrolled the club’s ascent through the non-league pyramid, but he will admit himself that the foundations upon which that success was built were far too brittle.

After stepping down last September a ground zero point was eventually reached when staff weren’t paid, star players left and morale around the club reached an all-time low.

Somehow, thanks in large part to the efforts of Dale Brooks, who departed as boss at the end of the campaign, the club kept its step three status and a plan was devised to ensure the club wasn’t put in this position again.

Different revenue streams have been sourced off the pitch and it is hoped these can be complement the efforts on it.

Keyzor now feels in a position where he can become the club’s figurehead once again and lead them back to the glory days of a few years ago.

“I’m thrilled to be back,” he said. “It’s a new venture, a new league, new management, new players, new sponsors, new board members - a new everything - there are lots of exciting things happening at the club.

“Obviously I have been in the background for a while, and last night there was a board meeting where I was appointed chairman again - its exciting and I have agreed to take on the role for an initial 12-month period.

“It is the start of a new era. The future in my eyes is looking quite exciting.”
