King's Lynn's high profile summer target Daryl Clare is poised to join Blue Square Premier Rushden & Diamonds.
The Linnets were among a host of clubs tracking Burton's 28-goal hitman but Brewers' boss Nigel Clough expects Clare to make a Nene Park switch.
He said: "We were aware of a lot of interest in Daryl. We did all we could to keep him, but we're not able to match the money being offered to players in some quarters."
Blue Square heavyweights Cambridge United and Stevenage Borough are believed to have also launched big money raids for Clare, who has previously helped fire Boston and Chester into the Football League.
