Angus Gunn is out to show he can cut it in the Championship at Norwich City.

The Manchester City keeper, who agreed a season-long loan move to the Canaries, has some big gloves to fill following John Ruddy’s departure as he looks to continue the Gunn dynasty at Carrow Road.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a senior career appearance but the England Under-21 international is not fazed by the challenge ahead as he looks to become Daniel Farke’s number one.

“I found it difficult at Manchester City to get a chance because of the quality of player there,” said Gunn, who along with Jacob Murphy is currently part of the Young Lions’ squad in Poland gearing up for next week’s European Championship semi-finals. “Maybe a few of the lads here with England are in a similar situation. If you are not pushing for a start in the Premier League then you need to be looking for football elsewhere.

“It is part of growing up and being a younger player at a Premier League club.”

Gunn need only look at Jordan Pickford’s meteoric progress at Sunderland, which earned him a mega-money transfer to Everton earlier this summer, before producing some impressive displays for England’s U21s in Poland over recent days.

“Being here makes you want to push on,” Gunn told Talksport. “I look at the players who were part of previous U21 groups and what they have gone on to do internationally. Generally they go on to have a good career and make a name for themselves. Hopefully that applies to this group of lads.

“It’s a great feeling to be in the semi-finals.

“Obviously it is not a feeling a lot of the U21 teams have had in recent tournaments. It is one step further on our journey and if we can get past that we can get into the final.

“It is a new experience for me. I had never previously been away with England at any tournaments, apart from the Toulon tournament last year, so that was a good building step for this.

“It is a pleasure to be here with these lads. There are boys here playing regularly in the Premier League and the Championship and it is great for me to learn from them.”
