There were some interesting results in the fourth round of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup, the league’s premier Cup competition.

The holders Morley Village went safely through to the next round with a 4-1 win at Cockers. The shock of the day was clearly at Tacolneston where the First Division club let a 3-1 lead slip as Marham Wanderers from Division Three stormed back with three goals in the second half to clinch their place in the last eight in a game that was played in excellent spirit and described as a credit to both teams and the league. Scarning United from Division Two also had a good win, beating First Division Gressenhall 3-1.

The other results went very much to form with three First Division teams all making progress. The leaders Castle Acre Swifts beat Northwold S&SC 6-1, Swaffham Town A won 3-0 at Rockland United and Thetford Rovers Reserves beat Nostro from Division Two by the same score. In the remaining match, Mulbarton Wanderers Reserves proved too strong for Watton United A and ran out 4-0 winners. The tie between Beetley United and Yaxham was postponed because of a frozen pitch.

There were two matches in Division One where North Elmham won 2-0 at bottom team Narborough to move up to second place and Bridgham United recorded a welcome 5-3 home win over Shipdham.

The Division Two leaders Rampant Horse beat bottom team Saham Toney Reserves 7-1. West End won 5-3 at Necton and move up to fourth place as a result and Bawdeswell recorded their first league win of the season in emphatic style, beating Sporle 6-0.

The top six teams in Division Three all failed to win. Leaders Attleborough Athletic went down to a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Great Cressingham while Litcham were held to a 3-3 draw by Hingham Athletic Reserves. Weeting and Splitz United drew 4-4. Stoke Ferry beat bottom team Narborough Reserves 9-2, Methwold United won by the odd goal of five at home to Rockland United Reserves and North Elmham Reserves beat Colkirk 4-1.

The top two in Division Three both recorded big wins. Leaders Mulbarton Wanderers A ran up the biggest score of the day with a 16-0 home win over bottom outfit Methwold United Reserves. This result means that Mulbarton become the first team in the league this season to notch up a century of goals. Second placed Walsingham United looked impressive as they notched up a 9-1 win at Gressenhall Reserves and things could have been much worse for the home team were it not for an outstanding goalkeeping display by James Whitman who pulled off several fine saves. Third placed Yaxham Reserves lost ground on the leaders as they went down to a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Tacolneston Reserves. Nostro Reserves beat Dereham Cockers United 6-3 while Castle Acre Swifts Reserves were 6-2 winners at Shipdham Reserves.
