Celtic goalkeeper David Marshall is “keen” to come back to Norwich City next season according to the player's agent.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper has just recovered from the injury that cut his loan spell with the Canaries short but Willie Mackay revealed his client would like to come back to Carrow Road.

“David is keen to come back to Norwich,” said Mackay. “He's just come back from his injury and is ready to go again.”

It is understood that Marshall is not prepared to play understudy to first choice Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc next season and now could be the time for Grant to make his move.

Celtic are preparing to offer Marshall a new contract at Parkhead but the lure of first team football with Norwich could be too much to resist for the Scot.

“They (Celtic) want to offer him a new contract but we'll have to wait and see,” said Mackay.

It had looked like Marshall would become the regular first choice at Celtic next season with speculation growing that the likes of AC Milan, Arsenal and Bayern Munich were looking at Boruc.

However, the Polish No.1 still has two years left on his contract in Glasgow and Celtic do not need to sell one of their prized assets.

Boruc has insisted that he is not looking for a move away from the Scottish champions and is happy with his life in Glasgow. The former Legia Warsaw man has even been tipped by many to replace the departed Neil Lennon as skipper.

All this has led Marshall to conclude that his future lies away from the club he came through as a youngster and a switch to Norwich could be on the cards.

Canaries boss Peter Grant has never hidden his admiration for Marshall and admitted earlier in the season that he would like to bring him back to Norfolk if ever he became available.

Grant has spoken of the need to bring in a new Bryan Gunn type figure between the sticks that can be Norwich's first choice for many years to come and, at 22-years-old, Marshall would fit the bill perfectly.

He impressed during his loan spell with the Canaries and gave Grant the presence he was looking for in his 'keeper to command his penalty area. The loan was cut short when Marshall injured his ankle in the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea but it appears that this may not have been his last appearance in the yellow and green.

Meanwhile, Joe Lewis has revealed that he has been told by Grant that he has as good a chance of anyone of claiming the No.1 jersey.

The 19-year-old, who signed a new three-year deal with City earlier this month, insists he will be doing everything he can to become the club's first choice.

“If I do well in pre-season training and games, and perform better than the other keepers at the club, I will get the nod and you can't ask for more than that.”
