Darren Huckerby will be working closely alongside new Norwich City Under-23s boss Matt Gill this season.

Former City midfielder Gill has been confirmed as permanent U23s boss having been in interim charge for the closing months of last season.

Having worked closely alongside Canaries legend Huckerby with the U16s previously, they will continue their work with the development squad in the coming campaign.

“We’re going to work really closely together all season, we’ve worked together a lot since I’ve been back in the building two years ago with the 16s, we worked with the 18s last year,” Gill said.

“We’ve got a fantastic working relationship, the experiences we’ve both had in our playing careers, hopefully we can have some influence on the boys to help them where they want to be.

“We play King’s Lynn in a friendly, which the lads are looking forward to, and then we go to Germany,” Gill continued. “So a couple of opportunities to play in front of the new head coach, the sporting director and the new first-team staff, so it’s a all about taking the opportunity when you get one.

“So it’s really exciting times for us as staff but also for the players, they should be really hungry to go and succeed this pre-season.”

“It’s a great job for me to get,” the 36-year-old added, speaking to Norwich City TV. “Obviously it’s my hometown club, we’ve come back as a family to Norfolk, really chuffed to get the role and looking forward to really getting stuck in to the role this season.”
