As TV commentators were quick to point out at the weekend, Norwich have not won at Stamford Bridge for 22 years. Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait another year for fortunes to change at that particular ground.
1993/94, as all Norwich City supporters know, was a very special season. That spectacular win in Munich will be always the first thing mentioned when talking about it, but for me it was even more special as I was actually working for the club at that time.
In October 1993, Mike Walker’s team were still showing the form that saw them finish a club-best third in the Premiership the previous season. Norwich comfortably beat Chelsea on that day with goals from Ruel Fox and Chris Sutton in a game that saw Norwich legend Robert Fleck come on as substitute for Tony Cascarino.
How times have changed. There were fewer than 17,000 supporters at the Bridge on that day, and it was a very different Chelsea Football Club than we know today. It would be great to get back to the early days of the Premiership, when money didn’t dominate the game. But those days have well and truly gone.
On Saturday I had hoped that we could capitalise on the home win against Swansea, but once again a lack of concentration from a set piece meant that Fabregas was able to take a quick free-kick from which Chelsea scored. Prior to that, Ruddy had made some excellent saves and we defended resolutely. We even had chances to take the lead and probably should have had a penalty when Willian clearly brought down Brady in the box.

And so on to Arsenal on Sunday. Maybe it’s time to give Kyle Lafferty a chance to show what he is made of. He has proven himself at an international level and scored a fantastic goal on Monday night against Man Utd U21’s. It can’t hurt to give him a try, can it?
