On a difficult afternoon at The Den our player watch focused on Canaries goalkeeper Angus Gunn in the pressure-cooker atmosphere at Millwall, seeing four goals fly past him in a miserable 4-0 defeat.

It was the second weekend in succession that the Manchester City loanee was left exposed by his team-mates to concede four goals away from home, following on from a 4-2 loss at Aston Villa.

Report: Millwall 4 Norwich City 0 – Canaries bullied at The Den

Gunn now heads off on international duty with the England U21s, for 2019 Euro U21 Championship qualifiers in the Netherlands on Friday and against Latvia in Bournemouth the following Tuesday.

9 - Out sharply to beat Lee Gregory to a long punt forward inside his box.

15 – 1-0 – Franke gets a defensive header all wrong, Steve Morison flicks on to Lee Gregory and Gunn is totally exposed, the striker firing across the on-rushing keeper from six yards into the bottom-left corner.

17 – 2-0 – Charges out after cross from the right finds Aiden O’Brien free in the box but cuts out of the equation with a simple pass to an unmarked George Saville, who fires low into the unguarded net with Russell Martin trying to get back.

20 – Jed Wallace breaks clear down the right but his over-hit cross is claimed and Gunn throws out quickly to get Maddison on the front foot.

39 – James Meredith takes a long throw from the left, sun appears to get in Martin’s eyes as he goes up for header and Gunn saves well at his near post from a Gregory bicycle-kick from close range.

41 – O’Brien runs almost the length of the pitch after a City corner but takes wrong option, Vrancic passes back but the winger chases and Gunn can’t pick up so has to hoof clear.

42 – 3-0 – Wallace shoots from the edge of the box, after side-stepping Franke, and finds bottom-left corner past Gunn’s outstretched glove.

HALF-TIME 3-0

47 – Morison sets McLaughlin through on the right, Gunn just gets fingertips to the low cross and Aiden O’Brien chips crossbar with a shot which Pinto deflects over, Gunn eventually claims loose ball from the corner.

67 – Meredith launches a long throw into the box to Gregory, who is behind City’s defence but Gunn is out sharply to claim.

71 – Wallace’s cross from the left drifts all the way to Morison at the back post, Gunn completely exposed and closes the angle as the striker lashes across the face of goal.

72 – 4-0 – The Lions get the fourth their dominance deserves, when a superb corner from the left from Shaun Williams allows Shaun Hutchinson to get a run on Ivo Pinto at the back post and power a header past Gunn from close range.

FULL-TIME 4-0

VERDICT: Angus used to watch John Ruddy’s exasperated looks at his defence from the stands and now he knows how his predecessor felt. Could have done better for the third but was unsighted slightly by Franke’s challenge. Would have been the hero if he could have stopped any of the other goals, with the 21-year-old repeatedly exposed by unacceptable defending.

Looked up to the skies and puffed out his cheeks in frustration as he trudged off the pitch alongside Josh Murphy at full-time. He must stand up to be counted and not wilt under the pressure which is now on Daniel Farke’s side if his loan is going to prove as successful as initially hoped.
