Defender Mo Camara believes he has every chance of reliving last season with an unlikely promotion push at Carrow Road.

The 32-year-old left-back spent last season at Derby County as manager Billy Davies turned round their season from early strugglers to play-off winners, propelling them into the Premier League.

While promotion was well within Davies' big spending reach for a large portion of last season, current City boss Glenn Roeder has worked a far bigger change in fortunes at Norwich.

And Camara believes his season - and the Canaries - could end in the same manner as last term did at Pride Park last May.

“When I came in to Derby, I came in at a similar position to where Norwich were when I came here for the first time,” said the defender, who is on loan at Carrow Road from Derby until the end of the season. “Norwich were like them - in the bottom three - and, like them, we have carried on winning and winning.

“Derby were still in the bottom three when I came in from Celtic, and here we were bottom. At Derby, we carried on working and working, got to the play-offs and won the play-off final. So hopefully it'll be the same thing here.

“We are on a good run at moment. We're on our 13th game and we didn't lose so we need to just carry on playing very well, carry on scoring and hopefully we'll be in the play-offs.”

The Canaries' last ditch push to clinch a top six finish, having been six points adrift at the bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship table only three months ago, was slowed by Hull City on Tuesday night.

But Camara and his team-mates are only looking at one goal for the rest of the season - and it is not the one most fans would have accepted before Christmas.

“Everybody is looking at the play-offs at the moment; that's the minimum we're looking at. We're a little bit disappointed we didn't take the three points on Tuesday night but we have a massive game at Leicester on Saturday and if we win, you never know what can happen.

“So we need to carry on doing well, like we are at the moment.”

Camara was rested for the draw at Carrow Road against the Tigers, but is desperate to be back in the side as quickly as possible, starting at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

“Of course I wanted to play, I want to play every single game,” added the defender. “The manager is there for taking decisions and he says I need a rest, so I need a rest. Hopefully I won't have another rest until the end of the season.”

“I'm loving it here. It's unbelievable. I'm really, really enjoying my football here at the moment, so that's why I'm really sad because I didn't play.

“The manager has taken a good decision and said I need a rest because we have a massive game at Leicester away and I need to be ready for that. So that's football sometimes, but I'm really, really enjoying every single day at Norwich.”

With Canary stalwart Adam Drury missing for the rest of the season, Camara has been a regular in the side and with the defender out of contract at Pride Park come the summer, he admitted he would like to prolong his stay at Carrow Road.

“I like it here,” said the likable Guinean. “Like I've told everyone before, I want to stay here. But at the end of the day, it's not just upon me.

“The manager is taking the decision, the club need to take the decision. Adam Drury is injured at the moment, maybe he'll come back in. Sometimes you have to think about both parties.

“So I just believe in enjoying every single day at the moment and we'll see at the end of the season what is happening.”

“I have my contract with Derby, so it's too early to talk about it. I want to finish the season with the maximum points, play in a play-offs, and everything that happens will be good for Norwich City and good for Mo Camara.”

With last season's success, will Mo be a lucky charm for the Canaries?

“I hope so, I hope so.”
