The 30-year-old Nelson was in fantastic form in April, with a series of assured displays at the heart of the Canaries' defence and vital goals in the victories against Charlton Athletic and Gillingham that clinched promotion, then the League One title.

Also short-listed for the April award were Ian Harte of Carlisle United, Roy O'Donovan of Hartlepool United (on loan from Sunderland) and Southampton's Rickie Lambert.
