Lowestoft began another new era with defeat in their first game since chairman Gary Keyzor announced he was stepping down from his role.

Keyzor has left the post for work-related reasons although he is considering staying on as a director.

On the field, Town suffered their sixth defeat in eight games, which has left them third from bottom of the table.

Staines looked sharp up front from the start and it took an excellent Dean Leacock tackle to deny Jonathan Hippolyte an early goal. After weathering that early storm Lowestoft took the lead with the best goal of the game, Jacek Zielonka smashing the ball into the top corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

But Staines were level just four minutes later. Mohammed Bettamer was able to turn Harry Barker before shooting past Ben Dudzinski from six yards. The pace and movement of the Staines forwards was causing Lowestoft massive problems, with Dudzinski called upon to save from both Max Worsfold and Hippolyte.

It was no real surprise when the Swans took the lead after 28 minutes as Bettamer played a great ball through the defence for Hippolyte to slot past Dudzinski.

The Blues keeper was having another busy afternoon and produced another superb stop to deny Daniel Brown as Staines threatened to run riot.

Lowestoft’s stretched defensive resources suffered a further blow in the 39th minute when Ollie Humphrey fell after making a challenge and was carried off on a stretcher.

Lowestoft looked more competitive in the second period with sub Andrew Fisk tightening up the midfield, but it was Staines who hit the next goal in the 57th minute when a quick counter saw Hippolyte beat the offside shout to run through from 40 yards out to shoot past Dudzinski.

Lowestoft were leaving huge gaps at the back as they tried to press forward and nearly paid the penalty as Bettamer’s strike cannoned off the bar.

Lowestoft were still looking to claw a goal back as the game came to an end with Rossi Jarvis inches too high from a Leacock knockdown but there was also danger at the other end as Dudzinski raced from his area to deny Elliott Buchanan with an excellent tackle.
