Long-time Norwich City target Martin Taylor will not be going to West Bromwich Albion according to reports from the Midlands.

The Birmingham City defender has already been the subject of bids from the Canaries and their Coca-Cola Championship rivals Queen's Park Rangers.

The centre-back turned down a switch to Rangers, instead preferring a return to Norfolk where he had a very successful loan spell at the end of last year.

But with the clubs failing to come to an agreement, reports suggested West Brom boss Tony Mowbray had made moves to hijack the deal in a bid to help shore up the defence of the promotion chasers.

However, a story into today's Birmingham Mail says talk of a Baggies bid for Taylor are “completely wide of the mark”, leaving the way clear for Glenn Roeder and City to perhaps secure his signature with under a week of the January transfer window remaining.
