King's Lynn's latest recruit Mark Peters insists there is no divided loyalties ahead of today's pre-season test against old club Cambridge United at The Walks. (3pm)

Peters was released by the Us earlier this summer after helping guide United to within 90 minutes of a Football League return in May's losing Blue Square Premier Wembley play off to Exeter.

The 36-year-old is an injury doubt ahead of a possible reunion after picking up a groin strain on his Lynn debut in Thursday's practice run out at (S & L) Corby.

“I'll see the physio before making a final decision,” he said. “It would be silly to take any risks with only a few games before the league starts. My loyalties are with King's Lynn now. I did have some good times at Cambridge but they let a fair few people go. It wasn't just me. These things happen in football but that is in the past and I'm only interested in the future.

“We did some work before the game the other night and there is a good vibe around the squad. The lads already here did a fantastic job to get the club up and they look a good bunch. You can sense there's a real togetherness and they enjoy a laugh and a joke.

“I hate losing, hate it, so I can promise I will give my all - 100%. That is what I will bring to the team and I believe we can achieve something special this season.”

The former Welsh U21 international revealed ex-Linnet Shaun Carey played a big part in his Norfolk switch.

“I spoke to Shaun who I know very well and he had nothing but good things to say about the club,” said Peters. “I played against Lee (Glover) a couple of times and obviously I knew Keith (Webb) a little bit. I did have some other interest but I wasn't prepared to move. I don't want the travelling. I've done that and we've just had a little girl so really it had to be something where I could concentrate on the football and the family.

“When I spoke to Keith both things came together so I didn't have a decision to make. Signing the likes of Julian Joachim shows what the club is all about. There are some experienced lads who have played at a higher level so a lot of us are in the same boat.”

Peters is already planning ahead despite committing his short term future to Lynn's Blue Square North promotion bid.

“Coaching is something I would like to do,” he said. “I've got my UEFA 'B' and at Cambridge I was a player/coach, doing a little bit on the defensive side and taking charge of the warm ups and warm downs. My aim is to play as long as possible. I'll maybe get my 'A' licence at the end of next season and then assess what is out there. It's a very hard leap to make but I'm still enjoying playing the game.”

Joe Francis, Scott Howie and Ben Sedgemore return after missing the midweek trip to Corby. Linnets' chief Keith Webb is also poised to include former Premiership trialist Kevin Horlock. The 35-year old free agent played 90 minutes in midweek for Southern League outfit Bury Town in their 3-0 defeat against an Ipswich XI.

Former Lynn target and ex-Norwich academy youngster Matthew Halliday is expected to feature for Cambridge United. Halliday and former Canary colleague Patrick Bexfield are on a week long trial. Us boss Gary Brabin will also include fellow trialists Aaron Goode from QPR and one-time Man United striker Ramon Calliste.
