Tim Krul feels Norwich City allowed a major chance to spark a survival push slip through their fingers at Carrow Road last night.

The Canaries were beaten by a powerful header from England defender Michael Keane in the 55th minute, as a Lucas Digne corner saw the hosts fail to respond to the obvious danger.

With nearest rivals Bournemouth and West Ham both losing and Aston Villa getting a draw at Newcastle, City now remain six points from safety, but with just seven games to play.

“Just really, really disappointed that we’ve left another chance unturned,” said the Dutchman. “Other clubs keep giving us the chance to close the gap and put on real pressure.

“I’ve been on the receiving end as one of the clubs just above the line and it’s horrible looking over your shoulder when you’ve got teams chasing you down.

“I’m looking at that game on Tuesday and thinking Spurs did the job (beating West Ham), let’s just do it because then we would only be three points away and we’ve still got these teams to come.

“I’m just so disappointed because the effort was there, the discipline was there, we didn’t down tools whatsoever.

“The one proper bit of quality from the set-piece from them and they did us.”

The performance during the loss to the Toffees was an improvement on Friday’s abject effort when losing 3-0 at home to Southampton, but leaves survival prospects looking slim.

It’s back to Carrow Road behind closed doors again on Saturday for an FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United, followed by a trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.

“It’s just that street-wise mentality. We had 20 corners, but it’s just not happening,” Krul continued, over-exaggerating purposefully and puffing out his cheeks. “And they have 10, or whatever, and just that bit of extra quality or delivery was there and they just towered above our defence.

“We’re more than capable of challenging at this level, that’s why it’s even more frustrating because we’ve had so many games that we should have won or a draw and at least had some more points on the board.

“Everybody is sucker-punched in the face again because we played well but zero points is what counts.”
