Jamal Lewis had to wait over two years to score his first league goal for Norwich City but the importance of his sublime winning strike against Leicester made it worth the wait for the left-back.
The 22-year-old's swerving shot left Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel helpless during the 69th minute of last night's Premier League clash, sending Carrow Road wild.
It earned a rejuvenating victory for the Canaries, to cut their gap to safety to four points and keep survival hopes alive.
However, it was even more satisfying for Lewis, in the 86th appearances of his career, with his only other goal having been a memorable header at Chelsea during an FA Cup third round replay which was lost on a penalty shoot-out in January 2018 - which had been just his sixth senior match.
"I'm so glad that I finally scored at Carrow Road, obviously every player wants to score in front of their home crowd," said the beaming youngster.
"It was a surreal feeling but there were still 20 minutes to go so I was trying to stay switched on in my defensive head, defend well and keep the boys at a high level, so it was good."
The goal was sparked by a fine long pass from centre-back Ben Godfrey to his England Under-21 colleague Max Aarons and the right-back's burst of pace left England senior left-back Ben Chilwell trailing in his wake.
"I saw Max bombing on - he had a great game," Lewis reflected. "He put the ball in the box and I was thinking if I got there late I could get on to it and luckily the touch was good on my chest.
"It just sat perfectly and I thought if I cut across this it could test the keeper and obviously I got the technique perfect and a great finish."
The spectacular effort earned just a fifth win and fifth clean sheet of the top-flight campaign for Daniel Farke's team.
And Northern Ireland international Lewis was thrilled to help his side bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 loss at Wolves, which had left the chances of a late survival surge looking unlikely.
"It was huge," he admitted. "Our point this week was that we needed a reaction from Wolves, we were really disappointed from that and how it came across, because we felt like we prepared for the game very well.
"So the main thing was the reaction, to show the fans that we're still pushing and we still believe - and it was great to get a clean sheet as well."
