Norwich City is backing Wroxham's FA Vase bid to turn this weekend into a double Norfolk trophy celebration.

Paul Lambert's champions will be presented with the League One trophy 24 hours before the Yachtsmen aim to dethrone holders Whitley Bay at Wembley.

The Ridgeons League squad will train again today at the Canaries' Colney base after beginning their cup final build up with a session at City's state-of-the-art complex on Bank Holiday Monday.

Wroxham chief David Batch insists access to professional facilities can only boost the Trafford Park outfit's preparations for the biggest game in their history.

“I would like to thank Norwich City on behalf of all the players at the club,” said Batch. “The use of their facilities allows us to work on a quality surface which is difficult to come by at this time of year and certainly assists us in the tactical planning and training we can do in the lead up to the game.

“We have a great relationship with Norwich and I know they have done what they can to help us get supporters down to London for the match as well. With so many Wroxham players having links to the club, it is great that we are all prepared to help each other. For our players who still work for the club in some capacity, they particularly appreciate it.”

Batch also revealed former Norwich boss Bryan Gunn has played an instrumental part in Wroxham using Championship club Watford as a base for their final training session this weekend. The Yachtsmen will travel on to Hertfordshire following a tour of the national stadium.

“Bryan was really helpful and managed to get hold of the Watford facility on our behalf through their manager, Malky Mackay,” he said. “That gives us another opportunity to fine tune our planning before the match along with visiting the stadium. I think it is vital we acclimatise the players as much as possible to the surroundings and the ceremony before the match.

“To me that is obvious preparation. Even if our team had played there the year before like Whitley Bay did, I would have done exactly the same thing as I saw with my own eyes that it benefits the players to visit the place again.”

Batch is adamant Norfolk's flag bearers will leave nothing to chance as they bid to emulate Diss who lifted the trophy in 1994.

'Earlier in the competition we have arrived at our hotel the evening prior to an FA Vase match,” he said. “But this is not the time to be preparing half-heartedly as both sets of players will use more nervous energy in this game than any other they have played this season.

“With that in mind, our fitness coach has given me strong scientific reasons to the benefits of arriving on the Friday and that is what we'll do. We are not prepared to waste a season's worth of work, effort and training two or three times a week since last summer for the sake of one extra night at home. To me and most importantly, to our players, that is a false economy.”

Tickets for Wroxham's FA Vase final against Whitley Bay at Wembley this Sunday are priced 25 and 12.50 for under 16s and supporters aged 60 and over.
