Emi Buendia’s brilliant strike has teed up a perfect weekend for Norwich City – sitting five points clear at the top of the Championship table before their rivals have even kicked a ball.

There was no score at the break on Friday night, with Swansea the better side and the pace of Dan James causing major problems in the first half, as Teemu Pukki fired the hosts’ best chance wide.

The Canaries emerged from half-time with the bit between their teeth though and took the lead in the 54th minute through Buendia’s blockbuster, dropping a shoulder to get into the box and smashing into the roof of the net, sending Carrow Road wild his fifth league goal of the season.

A fourth win on the spin moved Daniel Farke’s team five points clear of second-placed Leeds, who go to play-off chasing Bristol City tomorrow, and seven clear of third-placed Sheffield United, who host Rotherham at lunchtime on Saturday. The Canaries return to action with another televised Carrow Road clash on Wednesday night, when they take on play-off hopefuls Hull.
