Scoring a first Premier League goal was a ‘special feeling’ for Todd Cantwell but he admitted the edge was taken off as Norwich City slipped to a hard fought 3-2 loss to Chelsea.

The 21-year-old academy product, who has been on the books with the Canaries since he was 10 years old, equalised in just the sixth minute of a frantic start at Carrow Road.

"I had my family here, I'm glad they were here to see it, it's probably as special a moment for them as it is to me," the creative midfielder said.

"But it's just disappointing we can't leave here having got something from the game as it would have meant a lot more in that sense."

The goal came from some fine play from Emi Buendia, finding Cantwell in the box, who turned to striker Teemu Pukki to the left of the box and then charged goalwards to poke the Finn's low cross through the legs of the Blues' £80m keeper Kepa.

"It was brilliant," Cantwell added. "I've waited a long time to score that goal, it felt unbelievable, it's just disappointing that it didn't really mean anything in the end.

"I was hoping that if I got a good contact I would see it hit the back of the net."

It was Cantwell's second goal for his boyhood club, in his 31st appearance, and added to two assists during last weekend's 3-1 home win over Newcastle.

It's been a fine start to the season for the youngster but City couldn't quite manage a draw against the reigning Europa League champions, with Ben Godfrey hitting the bar with a header as the hosts chased a third equaliser.

"We're disappointed not to get something from the game," he reflected. "We had some real good spells and showed that Carrow Road is going to be a fortress this season.

"But we've got to be respectful of what a side they are, they can pin back many a team in the Premier League this season."

The former England under-17 international continued: "There's lots to learn, it's very different to the Championship but we're adapting quite quickly, we got a good result against Newcastle.

"We knew this was going to be tough but we realistically could have come out of it with something. It's just details - but we'll learn."
